If you're watching the Canadian / US Import series, Continuum, I'd like the CPS suit Kiera Cameron has. Besides the built in computer, it has bulletproof, invisibility with color-changing camouflage, a taser system, an energy shield and an advanced computer with viewscreens on her wrists.

She also has a mult-tool and sidearm. Other than the sight, I'm not sure what they'll do.

    The suit:

That's the best looking EDC ever! At least on her. :D

There have also been multiple references in the USA show Psych that Shawn and his dad Henry always carry a SAK and it's been integral to the plot several times. Always makes me smile.

Thank you! It was driving me nuts that I couldn't remember his name. I remembered how it worked, but for the life of me couldn't remember his name.

I have another one. Tavi from Butchers series The Codex Alera. There are all types of things that he carries to make up for his lack of magical talent. One that stands out is salt

I was looking at some old posts and this caught my eye as worthy of a bump.

I'm sure after 5 years, there are additions to be made. For example Arya's Needle would come in handy on occasion. Three dragons could also be considered handy EDC.

    Thoughts? :)

@Fishin Fool: Glad you bumped this. This is gonna be fun! ;)

I cannot believe for instance the following were left off so far:

    > Indiana Jones with his satchel and his whip!
    > the Green Lantern's ring
    > Sherlock Holmes' magnifying glass

I suspect I'll think of a few more...

Mack Bolan carried all sorts of stuff in his combat suit pockets, but some stand outs I remember were:
    - a “pencil flashlight”, which I assume was a penlight
    - a “sturdy pocket knife”
    - a garrote

Well, there was Mrs. Robinson's bag from _The Swiss Family Robinson_ --- the one thing I can specifically recall she pulled out of it was a spool of sturdy thread, "...one of the first things to go into it."

Interestingly, for the DC Universe Role-playing game, they created a specific class of objects to represent collections such as Batman's utility belt, the "Omni-gadget".

If you like fantasy, Steven Brust has a neat bit on the equipment which the protagonist, an assassin named Vladimir Taltos carries in his Dragaera novels (an impressive array of weaponry, some utility things such as flint and tinder and a candle, "Kelsch" leaves (which function as a stimulant), and a sword sheath which serves several functions.

Steve Perry's _Matador_ novels usually have characters well-equipped as well, with one well-to-do professional martial artist (from _The Musashi Flex_) carrying:

    - guitar
    - stun wand
    - a couple of knives
    - tag to represent his status in the game
    - phone, money, keys

and not much else, noting that when you're wealthy, you can travel light and just buy what you need when you need it (or store it in a safe deposit box), and discard it otherwise. The series is notable for later characters wielding Spetsdöds (small air guns adhesively attached to the back of one's hand, fired by hyper-extending the middle finger and touching the underside of the barrel --- usually they use a chemical agent to disable the target in some way).

I can't believe you forgot about Loiosh! ;) I really enjoyed that series, other than the issues of the different lifespans. Vlad would have been more like a pet than a friend, imo.

Glad folks are enjoying the bump.

    I was reflecting about it.
In the REAL WORLD probably Jack Reacher (besides the folding toothbrush, ATM card and Expired Passport) would carry some inexpensive folding knife or MT - $30 max - (examples: Kabar Dozier, Rat 2, Vic Tinker, Spartan or Hiker), a mini Bic lighter and a very "easy to find batteries", inexpensive and concealable flashlight (Streamlight Microstream, Protac 2AAA or Stylus Pro) and that´s it.
