For the past four years I wore a pair of Danner 452 Radical almost everyday; to work; camping; fishing trips; etc. I loved the large toe box and comfort of these shoes. I also like the internal Gore-Tex sock that kept you dry. This meant I could step into a couple of inches of water before stepping in my kayak and still stay dry.

Eventually, while still functional my Radical's started looking kind of dirty and old and the treads in some areas were showing wear so at the start of the year I bought a new pair of Danner 453 GTX shoes which replaced the discontinued Radical. Same large toe box and comfort yet slightly lighter with a different tread pattern and still Gore-Tex. I use the old shoes for dirty outdoor stuff and the new Danner's for work. :smitten:

    Current Favourite footwear (and why)...

Street Running: Brooks Radius 7, size 14D. Last shoes were Adrenaline 7's but those had too much stability which aggrivated my  IT bands more than other shoes. Brooks lasts are pretty good for my feet, but I actually have to lace them in an unusual manner for a perfect fit or they can be toe killers over longer distances.

Trail Running: Salomon XA3D, size 14. I tried a number of different manufacturers and while I really liked the feel of the Montrails, even the size 15 touched my big toe on downhills. Since going with the Salomons I haven't lost a single toenail. The lacing system is strange but it works well, the fit is perfect, and the stability on technical terrain is fantastic. They are also surprisingly light and offer better kick protection than most other trail running shoes.

(I highly recommend Injinji Socks for running. Technical toe socks -- fun to wear and they keep the blisters away.

Daily Wear: Wellco Desert Boots, size 13W. They're pretty comfortable for walking, and the ankle support isn't bad for such a light boot, but if I have to run in them for any distance they can be rough on the big toes. Nice and cool for the hot weather and perfectly broken in from the start.

...I'm looking to invest in a more durable boot for cooler weather and based on the recommendations I've gotten my short list currently has Lowa (Super Camp) or Hanwag (Special Forces LX) at the top. Only problem is finding somewhere to try them on as my feet are somewhat finicky and it's difficult to find my size.  :brickwall:

Call me Kramer. I also have them in brown. I like the 40s retro look and these are made by one of the last American shoe companies.

    Definitely Chiruca.

My shoes of choice are trekking/hiking/hunting boots, I find they are by far the most comfortable footwear, so I wear them on an everyday basis. After I've worn them for a while they get so comfy that when I get back home I don't feel any need to take them out and don a pair of slippers. A pair of Chiruca's (I've had 2, just bought a third pair) lasts me 4-5 years of wearing them nearly every day, all day, in city or field, enduring dust, water, mud, ice, snow, cow :censored:, anything.

The new pair I bought today looks a lot like this one (I couldn't find online pictures of the exact model). These have a cool lacing system involving a self-winding stainless steel cord. Really practical (no lace ends or knots anywhere) and you can easily tighten or loosen it with one hand even without looking. Looks like it's tougher than laces... time will tell.

Hey guys, this forum is great.

For everyday wear, I wear Clark Touaregs. I have a pair in brown and a pair in black. I walk (or bike) for my commute to work, so I put 20+ miles on the shoes a week just for that.

They are really comfortable, and I can run in them if needed.

I used Hi Tec Magnum Midnight ankle patrol boots most of the time, mainly cos they are very light and easy on the feet.

There have been a few changes to my footwear which I wanted to add to the thread...

Street Running: Brooks Axiom 2, size 14D. I found that the Radius didn't have enough support for serious distance work and caused some medial knee pain. The Axioms have been really good for my latest mileage buildup. They're nice and light, with just enough support.

Daily Wear: Lowa Banff, size 14. Nicely designed and well built backpacking boots. I make a daily trek to and from work, but even with the uneven terrain and a heavy pack I haven't had any ankle, knee, or back problems. Super stable and comfortable. Many have reported that they seem to fit 1/2 size large, and that appears to be the case. For me they're a perfect fit with heavy socks and I simply can't say enough good things about them.

Just got the best I have ever owned:

Ecco Receptor Trail running shoes. Goretex outer, stiff shank and the best fit I have ever had because they have a medium width.

I have size 46 feet and Nike et al dish up EE widths for guys like me.

These were originally designed for Canadian Olympians...

Just got to say that it took years to find a compfortable shoe. when I clean up, I can't wait to get into a pair of Rockports for my fat feet. They are great, right out of the box.

    Aahhh, shoes & boots!

Quite a story.... I have a narrow heel but my foot itself is VERY wide. This causes considerable commotion when it comes to finding new footwear; my heel moves up and down rubbing itself raw while the rest of my foot stays still. But this isn't where it ends - to add to the terror, a bone sticks out of my ankle a little too much, which makes wearing some lower/mid-rise shoes (Danner GTX 45 comes to mind ) rather impossible.

I used to wear Caterpillar boots until about two years ago, when I discovered Danner. After I wore Danner, nothing else felt 'right' anymore. The Matterhorn boots I wore during basic training felt very...different...from the Danners, for the lack of a better word.

I currently have a pair of Acadia boots with 200g Thinsulate, which I wear 3 season round (far too often!) . I've had them for two years and I've worn down the sole halfway, but I use them a lot and over varying terrain. I also have a pair of Fort Lewis boots, 600g Thinsulate, which I wear on long hikes, long drives, and in the winter I've had them all over the place; rocks, deep snow, salt water and sand, as well as other elements.

I cling to the Danners unlike anything else and am currently looking for a hot weather boot. Any suggestions, anyone?

Aside from the above, I just placed an order for New Balance Classics (M574) , Red Wing Porters and Keen San Antonio shoes from Zappos.com :)censored: service, free [sometimes overnight] both way shipping, no restocking fee, super-friendly) . I'll be keeping two out of the three, hopefully.

I purchased another pair of Merells over the last holiday season. These products seem to consistently fit my feet well.

I wear Danner Acadias all the time. Great boots. But on the subject of hot weather boots, I've heard nothing but good things about the Acadia Elite Hots and the Danner Marine Corps. Hope that helps. Good luck with your search! :)
