Looking for a good pair of EMT Shears for a FAK I'm starting to build. I've been looking at the Prestige Medical Flouride Scissor, Black 7 1/2 inch on Amazon, but am a little concerned about the quality. What's your favorite pair?
Honestly, just get the shears as most are the same thing just from different companies. If they wear out, which I doubt, get another pair.
I bought a pair recently, and they're great, the color hasn't rubbed off at all, even though I edc them on the outside of my pack, stuck into the pals webbing.
That's good to hear! My main concern was the pin the holds them together, as several of the reviews said that they experienced a failure in them at that point while they were brand new. Do they seem to be held together well / well constructed? Wow, that thing is beautiful. I have been through the leatherman site quite a few times, but I must have skipped right over there. I wonder if the shears are as good as a standard pair?
Yeah, I'm now eagerly awaiting them as well. I would assume they would have to be built better than standard shears, considering the Leatherman quality. From what I found after looking into it a bit, I am getting the same thing iplaysthedrums is -- sometime in may hopefully.
I have no idea. I'm not particularly interested in them. As someone who has used EMT shears for medical stuff in the past, it's not something I would ever use. They're not even autoclave safe according to a Leatherman rep that was asked about it, so it'd be hard to clean them. I'm not knocking on the product at all, it's a neat idea. Just not something I would invest in.
You should look for one with a schrew and not a pin.. The cheap once with a pin sometimes fails for me after just cutting a very short distance in denim.. Not recomended.. I am also looking forward the the leatherman
Medicut is the only brand I can think of offhand. They really are the same brand sold by a million different companies. I'm an EMT. I can vouch for one set of shears that has gotten me through perhaps half a dozen sets of clothing, and several thousand pairs that've been used once successfully and forgotten / left / dropped into a lake / towed away with the car ....
http://www.countycomm.com/premshearglow.html I've cut through mostly clothing, and more than a few times tangled wires.. those bed/floor alarms can really mess you up.
this is what I suggest http://ripshears.com/RipShears/Home.html They are of excellent quality. when the leathern raptor comes out i will probably get at least one. I love leathern tools.
Don't know if I would invest in these, but as for cleaning, we have some some wipes in the hospital, that are amazing disenfectent, so no need to autoclave.
I just ordered the rip shears ripper to add to my shears. Curious to see how I like them. GreyIndustries has the ripper for $13 with reasonable shipping for this product ($2). I like the fact that the blades are replaceable. That is a huge selling point for me.
I like the ones we buy by the case from a supply company. Cheap, stainless/plastic construction with the pin. Get me where I need to go on a regular basis, and if they're too nasty we just chuck them in the red bag!
I don't know for other country's but for Switzerland, some surplus shears are good. I got a baby blue shear from a cop store.
