Until I saw the 'Hero' brochure and noticed the Chinese on the band at the bottom of the cap I would have sworn this was a Parker Sonnet. I so wish that Hero and a couple of the other Chinese pen makers would adopt their own design cues. Clearly they know how to make pens. They don't need to be using the design components (in this case the arrow pocket clip) that are not only iconic (in this case of Parker) but in some cases are actually known trademarks. They're either being lazy, dishonest, or still don't accept the concept of intellectual property rights.

What a pity. They can look to the knife industry and and see what Chinese companies such as Kizer and WE Cutlery are accomplishing without resorting to such laziness!

Before anyone flames me, be aware that I do think they (the pen makers in China) have the technical ability to put out good product. National pride one would think would push them to move to the next step...

    L'chaim!

New to the world of edc pens. Can someone steer me in the right direction to get my first metal pen like most have posted? If this is the wrong place to post please move.

    Thanks
    Chad

    Hi Chad,

I guess it depends on what type of pen you are looking for. Can you narrow it down a bit or post a photo of a pen you like?

If you like G2 refills I would handily recommend a Lamy like this.[IMG]

I'd suggest starting at the lower budget end and work your way up. Maybe try a Zebra F-701 Stainless, Caran D'ache Metal Ballpoint Pen, or one of the metal bodied Fisher Space Pens.

Maybe something like a Rotring Rapid Pro or even a Retro 51...you can "customize" them with a compatible refill of your choice. With many of these metal pens, if you don't like the way they write, you can change the refill to something you prefer. I like the Schmidt Easyflow 9000 refill.

Both of the above are good. I would also add a Parker Jotter or one of it's variants like the 45 ballpoint or Vector. Both accept any of the many "Parker-compatible" refills. I like the Parker gel and the Schmidt Easy Flow refills. They also accept Fisher space pen refills (with the included adapter) and Schmidt 950 Megaline refills (both types are write anywhere/any position ballpoints). Monteverde markets a plethora of refills as well and Itoya has a good gel refill. If anything you write on gets wet, be advised that gel ink will wash off much more readily, in most cases.
