Without the knowledge in your brain and your ability to use it well, the various items you carry won't do a thing to help.

After all of that wasted effort, and you still failed to address the OP's legitimate premise and question about training or knowledge for particular situations. I read nothing in your list that would be particularly useful in an emergency. Frankly, I found your post unnecessary and trollish.

I edc a good amount of common sense since it seems lacking these days in most people.

I generally try, beyond the normal things, to remember the bullet drop chart for whatever rifle is accompanying me, and all the ingredients for "household chemicals in the correct proportions". (Bonus if you can identify that quote without Google-fu). Medicinal herbs native to one's area, as well as edible plants. If anyone has read Jules Verne's masterpiece The Mysterious Island, just think of what Cyrus Harding had in his mind.

Favorite book as a young lad (or adult for that matter). My copy is worn out from repeated readings.

Wrong. Tremors, Burt Gummer, the greatest gun nut ever.

Don't you find the amount of knowledge the man had amazing?!?!?!

I still can't believe that he was Alex P. Keaton's dad.

Bingo, and much like my philosophies of life. I am a "renaisance man" of sorts, like the saying, "jack of all maser of none" I try to be a Jack of all, Master of many. I try to learn, and learn well enough to do accurately/applicably any and all skills I come upon. Whether I can see direct applications or not. Even if I can't see it ever being needed by me... Often enough, that turns out to be wrong, and I'm glad I learned the task/skill.

I have always thought that "sharpen a knife" should be added to that list.

Indeed! Great book. Movie(s) didn't begin to do it justice.

If I may be permitted a momentary "grandfather's OT drift" ... just two weeks ago, sent my 55-year-old dog-earred copy to 2-year-old grandson for his birthday, with a note expressing hope that someday he will read and enjoy like I did as a youngster. Mom & Dad know to preserve it until then like the family heirloom it is! :D

    Yup!
There is a longer version of that list floating around the net that includes things like setup/trouble shoot a computer network/LAN, hot wire a car, change a flat... It adds a lot of the things that people no longer do themselves, but pay others to do, and things that modern tech requires of us.
