I'm looking for an EDC blade geared towards self defense that meets Boston laws. My understanding is that 2.5" is the maximum legal blade length. I would prefer something that could be carried IWB but would also have multiple carry options such as pocket, etc. The Hideaway Knife looks nice, but I can't get them to respond to my emails. What else might be suitable?
I think the issue you are going to find w a blade that short is the corresponding handle length. The guys I know that carry a blade in Boston, Chicago or federal facilities have "normal" knives bobbed to 2.5". Delica, Youjimbo2 etc. I took a Delica and Endura down to 2.5 and really like them. Not my preferred knife but if I'm worrying about length restriction they do OK. The Spyderco Kahr collaboration is cool if you can find one. You'll pay more than you think you out but I dig them. I do like the Yojimbo2 but it's too long. I don't know much about cutting down blades. Is there anyone that does this?
Top of my head i don't. The guy I know hs one was done as a favor by Mike Janich. I have a new Yo2 on the way and plan to have a go at it. Jeff
Correct me if I'm wrong but in MA if you have a class a LTC blade length is not an issue. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
It does not cover you for knives, only for firearms. This has been debated much because language pertaining to LTC's and knives are misleading in the statute. People have been busted for carrying switch blades with a LTC. MA has no state wide length limit but a handful of cities and towns have blade length ordinances, all are only fines.
I live in the Boston area and carry a Kershaw Cryo 2 which is about 3" give or take I have never had a problem with it. A buddy of mine has the same knife and has been stopped and they didn't say anything when the asked to see it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
If you can find the crkt ringer 2, I believe , it has a hawk bill blade with a similar handle as the hide away's and for around 20 bucks it makes a good LDK and is extremely light weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is also the Spyderco Chicago if you can still find one 2.25 blade Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
The Spyderco Cat is my favorite small modern folder. Perfect blade length for this need, great handle ergonomics, and a marvelous deep carry clip.
Came here to say pretty much this. Lived here for about 5 years now, in the area for ~12, and any time they've noticed I'm carrying they do the palm check. If it's longer than their palm, there's an issue. Never had a complaint, and most of the time we end up talking about blades. Don't be a dink, be responsible, and enjoy Boston!
I've commented somewhere on here before about this being my favorite to carry, only because its so bright, and only the little thin nub sticks out. Then you pull out this dang wide thing, and no one expects the teeny blade hahaha. In correlation to an ESEE Zancudo and a Spyderco Domino:
