Cryo is a great looking knife, but I would also recommend a Byrd knife. I have the tern (basically a non-locking Robyn), and it's great :) really cheap too!

I think the perfect knife for you would be the Kershaw OD-2. Here are the specs:

    • Locking liner
    • OD flipper
    • Reversible (tip-up/tip-down, right) pocketclip
    • Steel: 8Cr13MoV, bead-blasted finish
    • Handle: Glass-filled nylon
    • Blade length: 21/4 in. (5.7 cm)
    • Closed length: 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm)
    • Overall length: 51/4 in. (13.3 cm)
    • Weight: 1.4 oz
I've seen its price hover around $18 online.

It's a little workhorse of a knife that would do everything you need without being excessive. I have the OD-1 and love it. I've been thinking of adding the OD-2 just because.

Just to throw in my 5cents, I use the Ontario Rat M2 everyday for work and around the house, it looks great, feels great even in my large hands an it is light, I carry it in my Skinth Magnum side tube for work but Pocket carry it over the weekend..

Here it is next to my Cold Steel Micro Recon 1..

I second a Spyderco Dragonfly 2. Great ergonomics, more people friendly for your situation (you do not want to pull out a tactical knife at a coffee shop), and has a MUCH better steel for the price than most others in that $50 range. If you'd be willing to go a little bigger, the Benchmade mini griptilian would take care of your needs at work and out of it. It's one of the best every day carry blades and can be had for $60 new if you shop around

Oh yes, very cool little knife, I like to open it with my thumb like a zippo... If I wouldn't have put it apart to make new scales wich turned out way more difficult then I expected. Now other projects keep me busy but some day, yeah someday I'll have an OD-2 with CF scales. I swear

Dragonfly2! Weighs nothing and cuts way above it's size! $50 for VG-10 and $70 for ZDP-189.

^^ +1 for the Dragonfly II, when I read your description and needs, it was the first blade on my mind. Can't go wrong with one!

Spyderco. Just like every one else said. They just look kind of less threatening.

I like the Kershaw Leek for EDC. Slim, capable and a frame lock.

Love the benchmade mini grip, carry one 5 days a week, but the blade is longer than what you specified. I would go with the dragonfly II plus it's less $$$ than the mini grip

That OD-2 is...intriguing. It's moved up near the top of my wish list.

I have to throw in another vote for the mini-grip. Solid knife even for bigger hands. Spring assist for non-dramatic one handed opening and I like the fact that I can lock it closed if its rolling around in my pocket

+1 for the Buck Vantage Pro. I carry the large and love it, but would love to supplement it with the small. I love the blade shape and the grip is extremely comfortable. Plus, the clip lets it ride really low in your pocket.
