    Hi All,

I don't EDC my ham gear, but I usually take lots of radios with me when I go on vacation. I do have a Yeasu VX7R-B, and a county issued Motorola Motorola XTS 1500 (2 meter) that also works in digital mode (we have several digital repeaters locally). Although I don't EDC it, the Motorola is with me frequently.

Both kids have their Technician class licenses.

I have 4 Motorola MTS2000 Flashport (UHF) HT's and a Motorola GR 1225 repeater (UHF) That can be set up at a moments notice. These radios have several ham repeater pairs and simplex freq's in them as well as the FRS freq's in them. This is what we take with us in the RV, so we can either work simplex for a couple of miles or set up the repeater, with our 36' Heavy Duty fiberglass push up pole. I have both a J-pole and a fiberglass gain antenna. A rack charger is in my future plans. My truck has a Yeasu FT-90 in it, & a Uniden HR2510 10 meter radio in it.

When I get the radio, it will most likely be and EDC item. Still trying to find a dual band HT cheap enough my wife won't mind.

there are plenty out there just a lil research to find what features vs. cost. I have a cheap chinese dual band HT (shhh....) and for what I use it for I couldn't be happier.

I have a decal with my call on it, the frequency was probably the VHF calling frequency which I scan, and my APRS beacon includes what frequency they can call me on.

    hello all,

own the vx8r, but i think it is too big for EDC.

also own the vx3r. little champ of a radio if you are in/near a concentration of repeaters.

small enough to fit in a front jeans pocket or a jacket. listens well, and with an upgraded antenna, gets out well on the local repeaters.

    good carry,

That VX3R looks like a nice little honey of a radio! I'll have to remember that!

It is very small, nice for EDC usage, the only draw back I can see is it's really low power. Not bad if you are close to repeaters.

I carry a VX-3. It's great in a metro area where there a many repeaters, and I probably get more coverage here in Colorado where our repeaters are at 8,000 feet or more. Not sure how it would do in a more flat land situation. Nice thing is it will receive weather radio, FRS, local FM stations, etc. I can usually cover 5+ miles simplex. Amazing what they crammed in such a little package and spare batteries are very light weight.

How does the VX3 do on shortwave or low ham bands with the ferrite antenna? Is there a way to hook up an external antenna for AM/shortwave? Can you hook one up in place of the rubber duck?

Hello! let's resurrect such an interesting branch! we talk a lot about radio stations, but miss an important aspect: HOW to wear edc radio? It is important, with which antenna, so that efficiency is, and with a protruding spire not to go? what radios do you wear and where on exactly do you wear? I ran into a problem: it is difficult to wear a radio every day in everyday urban conditions when using the diamond srh805s on yaesu vx-8dr or vx-7r, because reception is poor, and with a long antenna it is impossible to go to work and travel by public transport.[IMG]
