Back up, no. Different knives for different tasks , yes. R.U.T. in front left. SAK in front right. Kershaw Skyline or Cryo in right rear. The R.U.T. has numerous tasks that I wouldn't use "YOUR" knife on. The SAK is for opening snuff cans, trimming and cleaning finger nails, light cutting and opening cans. The larger rear pocket knife if for larger tasks and for cutting my daily avocado at lunch time.

I carry either a Case mini-trapper, or a Case wharncliffe mini trapper in my LFP with whatever change I might have, and a clipped folder in my RFP along with my phone. Also I have a Recruit on my key chain. Any more junk and my pants will fall down.

I always carry multiple knives when outside the house (inside I usually have multiple blades within reach).

My main carry knife is a Bucklite Max. This is for bigger tasks. My secondary knife is a stockman pattern slipjoint (currently a mediocre Stanley, but soon to be upgraded). The stockman's sheepsfoot blade is my single most used blade. As a backup, I also have a Victorinox Classic on my keychain (mostly for the scissors). And last but not least is the Leatherman KICK on my belt (the blade on it is my emergency backup).

So by backup you mean a third knife, right?

Only 1 knife at a time for me.

I try to keep my EDC to a minimum.

On-duty, yes...I have a folder clipped on each side, plus a 2 finger blade up high, but out of sight.

I always have something in my right pocket. Right now its Spyderco Native. but usually its my Ontario Rat. Outside of that I have my SAK Spartan in my jacket pocket with my pen. A classic SAK on my key chain and the one I always froget about, I have a Buck 110 on my work bag at all times. So yes I do have backup. Oh and I think I put an Opinel in my truck "just in case"

I've usually got a medium/large folder clipped on my pocket, Spyderco Para 2 or Manix 2, or a Large CRK Sebenza.
In my notepad I've got a Gerber EAB, and on my keys I've got an alox SAK Mini-Champ.

I generally always carry a small multitool (Gerber Dime or Leatherman Juice S2) and some flavor of 3-4” one hand deplorable folder.

I usually carry my standard folder (SOG Arcitech Damascus) in the front-right knife pocket of my pants (usually 5.11 but sometimes Tru-Spec), a Victorinox Tinker on my keychain, a MUT which has a one-handed open locking 420HC blade, another SAK (I think it's a climber...honestly not entirely sure) in the pocket organizer in my EDC messenger bag, and frequently a Boker Magnum stiletto as well.

It seems perfectly normal to have all of those on me, yet, as I typed this out it started to seem a bit redundant.

Typically I have a primary (Benchmade / CRKT) secondary on the multitool and a pocket blade - my Grandpa's Case from ~'73, more likely the utilikey blade, mostly to touch up construction pencil leads.

I know of someone similar, he does IT stuff for one of the big banking corps in London, he can't take any sort of penknife into work now, not even a sub 3" non locking one, which we can legally carry whilst in public.
    Crazy world we live in.

ZT452 plus a small Old Timer or Case folder. Whipping out the 452 in some company tends to scare people.:frantic:

Then in my bag there's a ZT300, a Cold Steel Pro Lite tanto, a CRKT K.I.S.S., a Gerber muti tool, a SAK...

Then in the car I keep a Kabar USMC and a Coleman boot knife.

Wow, when I write it all out, it sounds a little crazy.

Always: 3-4" locking single blade folder and Leatherman
Frequently: above plus fixed blade OR Vic. Cadet
Less frequently: all of the above
Sometimes: all of the above plus extra folder

Always in my EDC/vehicle bag: fixed blade, Leatherman, folder

As some others have said; for me and the things I do in my life it seems logical to carry those things when I do, but typing it out makes me think I might have a problem. :help:

I aim to carry as little as possible - so I don't really want to end up weighing myself down with three different blade variants when I can do almost everything needed with something general purpose like a SAK.

Having said that, I do typically have a spare around of some sort - either the bug that lives on my keys, or a classic that lives in an altoid tin in my bag with a few other small items as spares for the day I manage to lose or forget something...

The sergeant always said "Two is one and one is none." where knives were concerned. 90% of the time my primary is a Spyderco Para2, Endura, or Delica waved. Secondary is either a Vic Cadet, Champ, or the like. I always have at least two in urban setting and three in the wilds (fixed blade added).
