I'm getting a little out of space here, I usually save every box of my multitools, knives and flashlights, what should I do? Find more space or just throw them away?

    I bin mine.

I tend to hoard stuff, and it gets annoying, so I'm learning to chuck out any superfluous crap now!

I've been keeping mine in the spare room closet. I don't hoard much in my life, but I'd rather pass my tools down to my kids and grandkids with the original boxes.

I don't think my tools will live long enough to be passed onto my son!

I keep some boxes. If the original box is really bulky, or it came in a clamshell pack, I'll loss the packaging and keep the paperwork or inserts. Small boxes I may keep, especially if they can be folded flat. I generally prefer to put the tool/knife in a small ziplock bag and then store the flattened boxes somewhere where they'll be out of the way.

Yow! It never before occurred to me to flatten the boxes! Oh, the pileup of years (decades?) now about to be reduced!
Comrades, let me tell you; sometimes an offhand comment can change your life!

I keep boxes for things that work best to return to their boxes when I move to a new home, things that may need returned, and things that I may sell down the road.

Yeah i have the habit of keeping boxes of name brand items of great resale value . I know that if you get overwhelmed by the collection of branded boxes that you have lots of re-sellers want those boxes . To use when selling used items or like new items on Ebay , There are listings on there where you can unload your hoard of cardboard . ;)

I never understood why you would keep a box if your are never going to put the product back in it! My policy is this: if you keep the box and use it once a year, maybe worth keeping but if you only use the box once in a while then toss it. I will keep a box for year and yes i put a date on it....if the box isn't used it gets tossed ASAP!

I never keep the box. Remember, keeping Stinky Pete in the box in Toy Story 2 turned him into a traitorous nutjob. ;)

Let's face it, the hoarding of boxes is a big problem. The sensible thing to do is to throw the darn things out. As I guy who never sells anything, I can't imagine a reason to keep a box. However, much to my bride's chagrin, I do, in fact, keep all my knife and Lego boxes.

That's right, you read that right. I said "Lego". Don't judge me!

Every time I visit my attic for something, I realize I am no position to judge anybody for keeping anything.

Lego boxes have great artwork and ideas for alternate models on them. I keep mine. The little ones squish flat, and the big ones hold the larger sets. I also keep the boxes for plastic model kits.

If loving LEGOs is wrong, I don't wanna be right. :p

I've been tinkering with LEGOs for nearly 35 years, and I still have most of the kits I had when I was a kid. I was always partial to the castle and space themes as a kid, and the pirates when I was a bit older. Nowadays, the Star Wars sets are pretty amazing.

It's a good idea to keep the boxes for any tech items: cameras, phones, tablets, hard drives, etc. If it goes bad, you can send it back in the original box, and the box often has useful info on it. I usually keep mine until the warrantee is up.

It's also a good idea to keep boxes for anything that you might eventually end up selling or trading. For example, I keep all of my knife boxes for Spydercos, Case knives, etc. Having the box adds to the perceived value of the item, especially if it's a collector's piece to begin with.

However, the box is still a nice bonus, even if the item is intended as a user. For example, I keep the boxes on cameras, phones, Gameboys, etc even past the expiration date, just because I may upgrade at some point in the future.
