Many years ago the owner of a now defunct general store showed me this methot of cutting string without a scissors or knife. I had not thought about it until the subject came up on another forum. I was able to find this link. Enjoy.

Snap a length of string with your bare hands

I have to think that doing it on lengths of cotton yarn is one thing and quite handy if you are doing a lot of loom or spinning tying of or even wrapping the odd parcel in a 1950's store before the days of plastic wrapping of everything. Trying it on a thin strand (say a length of paracord core strand) would lead to a quite different experience.
