Dude-that rock pattern looks really cool! Looks like something you pulled out of nature-and I love that kinda stuff!
I just used some rattail files that I had lying around. You should be able to pick them up at any hardware store.
I really want to try this but I need to get some new scales. Knifekits.com has some nice stuff but I have read some people are have had problems ordering from them. Is this still the case? Has anyone dealt with them recently?
Try USAKnifeMaker.com. They have some good prices on sets of G10 scales and very reAsonable shipping.
ok, im gonna have to try that on a knife i dont really care about in case I mess up. Thanks for the info
How do you like the green screwdriver you had in the video Troublemaker? Is that aluminium? Where'd ya get it?
If you're referring to the "how to" video, that was just a link that I posted; it's not my video. It was posted on Youtube by a guy named RedGladius. He does some really great custom scale work
Oh sweet, yeah thats the vid i was talking about. Learned some good tips from that vid too, thanks for sharing.
Somehow my 10mth old made this post from my cell: "Ddxfdffd e" Here is my first try at it with my RAT-1: RAT-1 by kyeandtabbs, on Flickr Be safe and be well
Thanks for the great thread! I'm going to try making my own knife scales soon and this is really helpful!
In retrospect, I wish I would have gotten something other than a set of needle files. I only did one scale because my hands are crapping from the small file. I'm not very artistic. Glad to see it's transferred over to G10 scales. All the areas that I've filed look white. Is there a way to clean that up so they go back to looking black?
Buy some 500 grit and 1200 grit sand paper and hit it. should smooth it out and kinda begin to polish a bit. colors back.
Really cool interesting pattern! You know what I keep seeing though? Some sort of inlay or glow epoxy down that middle strip...could be awesome
Yeah-most of these pro knifemakers who share their techniques use industrial belt sanders and grinders....it's amazing they can be more precise than with a hand tool...well at least for g10 handle shaping...
