i went out and bought the Zebra F701 and thought it was a great pen....until i learned about the F402 clicker mod, soooo i bought two of those and completed the mod. which by the way i skip the freezer portion completely. but thats another story. in any case i decided while the stainless look is timeless and classic id like something more personal and aged. so i tried to do a forced patina. first with mustard (nothing) then i looked at saltwater etching...hmmmmm. well i ended up getting that to work with two 9V batteries wired together in series for 18V and made a stout mix of salt water and some copper telephone maint wire from my punchdown room. and accidentally copper plated the knurled barrel and the tip and clicker. after it got that good aged look, i used some 2.5micron wax based diamond polish to give it a smooth texture in the hand(it felt chalky and odd) and a wipe down with some mineral oil. then cleaned it with a light wipe of alcohol. feels great and looks great to me. here is a couple side by side pics for your pleasure.
