I tried a couple of ideas for my ESEE tins, but ended up making a standard fire kit:

I need to buy some Tec Lok's but until I do I needed to come up with something for my new JR. I remembered that
my Ontario RAT 3's came with Tec Lok's and clips, I tried the clip on the JR's sheath:

I was thinking about cutting off the overhanging part of the clip, but I might be able to mount a ferro rod holder
on it, so I'll wait until I get some Kydex.

    Boo, But necessary:

I need some cheap cases, I'll put one pair in the truck, one in the car, and one in the emergency bag.

SMAJ , I tried out the fire steel today, and I like it.

As a flint and steel striker. I used it with a piece of quartz and pyrite, and I got good sparks off of both. I was comparing the ESSE to the Wolf Creek striker I bought earlier this year, and they both seemed to throw equal amounts of sparks. I failed to catch a spark on char cloth with the ESEE and pyrite, but I think this was only because I'm running low and kept tearing strips off the piece I had, so I had a very small piece left.

Next up, as a ferro rod striker. All of the edges on the ESEE are sharpened, and throw good sparks with the rod. I lit various types of tinder easily
except for wood shavings... the ESEE is much larger than a typical ferro rod striker and it seemed to get in the way (I may have also had poor
quality shavings, I was using a super cheap knife as an experiment that I'll talk about later. ;)) I made sure to strike the ferro rod on the same
edge that I had used with the quartz because I was wondering if that would round off the edge enough to cause a failure to spark, but it worked fine.

And as a bow drill bearing block. The first thing I noticed was the ESEE isn't super comfortable to hold bare handed as it's smaller than I prefer
a bearing block to be, plus the sharp edges. But put on a glove or pad your hand with a bandanna and it's fine. Other than that it worked great,
    and I did get a coal: :D

I don't think the ESEE is quite as cool looking as the WCF striker, but I do like the fact that it's a multi purpose tool. Overall, I'd recommend it.

Awesome! Thanks for all of the information! I will definitely consider getting it. I am still a novice with making fire without matches or lighters, so I welcome all the experiences that you folks have shared! I am not familiar with the WCF striker, but will start researching now! Thanks again!

Yesterday I picked up a Suunto Clipper compass. I've read it's the top of the line for a button
compass, (and for the price it'd better be) anyone have any experience with these?
