i know this isn't high fashion but i just don't enjoy all the different brown tones being called coyote. it is hard to match colors using different brands of pouches and bags...any hints as to what brands match up best? thanks

What do you have that your trying to match?

Obviously most brands should match with their own products excluding fading and use.

I know that the Coyote that County Comm uses matches the 5.11 Tactical Flat Dark Earth colors well.

Emdom's "coyoteish" matches up pretty well with most of the medium coyote colors. (Like ATS R.A.I.D.)

Has alot of pictures of various colors alongside other colors. It doesn't have a ton of pictures of their coyote vs others, but you might still find it helpful.

I just read this one a couple of days ago, so can't resist... (Credit to Lise Myhre):

Seriously, though, when manufacturers buy cordura (or any other fabric), there's always a bit of variation from lot to lot, even if it's supposed to be the same. It's unavoidable. I imagine it's even worse when mixing and matching components from different manufacturers.

There are two coyote colors one is "Coyote Brown" and the other is "Coyote Tan". Add to that the variation in dye lots from different manufacturers and its hard to match colors. Green is worse, you have the olive family "Light Olive", "Dark Olive", "Military Olive" and the ambiguous "Olive Drab" then "Foliage Green" and "Ranger Green" which technically are gray and Emdoms "Sewer Green". I'm sure I have missed a few.

    this

anything colored coyote brown, or anything else the remotely resembles camo of any sort is 1) meant to be used rigorously or 2) total junk
getting dirty is the quickest way to figure out which one your stuff is

Good luck, it would be hard enough to get different runs from the same company to match. The different shades of OD killed my OCD when I was in the army.- George
