Since this is a new year, and decade. I thought, that I would update the Cold Steel thread. Pretty decent weather here for the 1st of January, so I snapped a few pics of my newest acquisition, while walking-the-perimeter today. I'm really lovin' this big 4 Max, by-the-way! Carries just-as-easily as my AD-10.
My small Cold Steel collection ...
I have a Trailmaster in my BOB. It pairs very well with the one and only Glock that I own (Model 19) & the 4-inch .44 Magnum Model 629.
Mine was made from SaiMai steel. I don’t know what about it that makes it cost more than the other steel used in that model. I’ve not cut anything with it so I cannot determine its practical advantage if any. It was a birthday gift from an underling.
San Mai is a proprietary, Japanese forging process where the edge of the blade has hardened hagane [steel in Japanese], encased by iron/stainless alloy forming the jacket, on both-sides of the knife. Basically, one with a 'super-steel' core. Which is why you see the increased cost-factor.
Looking at Cold Steel's newest release the 4 Max Scout. 'Tri-ad' lock, AUS-10 steel, and grivory handles for $120 USD. Hard to go wrong with this one!
So , Here is my bushranger. I love this knife, so comfortable in the hand and the blade is a great grind. It helps that Mike Wallace designed it for cold steel and he’s built all my fixed blade knives I have. G10 and S35VN , plus the triad lock..... hello

That Bush Ranger rocks, Sutty! Great close-up.
Here's one of my AD-10 outside:
How comfortable is that hump atop the handle, just behind the flicker-opener-plate? In general I like the knife's design, but that looks as if it might get in the way, especially if using my thumb to press the blade into a cut.
Love the Watch.
