Well, I forgot to take pictures of the rawhide test pieces where it's better to see.
On my wallet I wasn't careful enough for correct positioning :p

Tomorrow I'll try to take some pics of the stamps I made and maybe I'll redo this King Saint Stephen, too.
Or maybe I'll just add some other coins in mixed positions as well ;)

Btw, it's a no-name walllet for €15, nothing fancy but genuine leather.

I confess I never thought about using coins to make images on leather. I really like it! Did you use some sort of press or tool to set the image?

It's working better with harder leather, my new wallet's material is way too soft.
The suble imprint is interesting nonetheless as it's looking like real coins left their trace even though they would be a mirror image.

Wait, please explain the blue discs. What are they (material)? How did you do it? Simply press the coin under pressure onto the discs? Some, llike the Kennedy image, look raised as opposed to embossed. Nifty idea.

Your idea is not bad although I went a different path.
We have a molding material on job made of 2 components that we use to make lasts for insoles.
I've put some paper tape around the coin to get a cast and just put in the mixture.

Silicone spray helps a lot to remove the coin but also to heat up the piece in an oven and then lay the hot coin onto the ice in the freezer.
The metal expands more than the form so it also contracts more in the cold so it just popped off.

Most of the time that is, sometimes I had to contract the form in a vise instead...

I think a medal could give a nice stamp as well ;)

Impressive. Nice, creative way to utilize work equipment. I never would have thought of that.

This project even motivated another co-worker to try his 2-3 years old leather embosing tools again.
He wanted to do that since a long time, maybe now he will ;)

    Congaratulations, I like it, too.
But the kids like it more, especially when they can hit the soldier's head to start and stop the noise ;)

An update to the leather pendant

It surprised me how different the skulls appear

If anyone has seen the original badge before and knows where it's from, please let me know as I have no clue where it's from

That would be way cool with a Krugerrand.

Send me one and I'll send you the pouch in return ;)

I couldn't justify the spending for one.
Since a while I'd like to have a Swiss 20 francs "Goldvrenely" to make stamps for a leather pendant but $250 spent on nothing is way too much for me atm.

Also I'd like to add that this 5 Mark piece is rather huge, 38 mm or 1 1/2"
It would be more difficult to make such a pocket for a small coin.

Oh, I just checked the prices, the 1 oz Kruger Rand with 33 mm is just around $1400 :uhhuh:
But there seems to be a 39 mm silver version for around $20, maybe next month that could be an option for me.

I'm off from work for 2 weeks, maybe then I'll do something like this for a Silver Eagler (1997 iirc)

And my 7yo son wanted a leather fob from Laufen castle at the Rheinfall (largest cataract in Europe iirc)
We pressed 2 souvenier coins, 20 Rappen to press, 2 Swiss Francs fee (same in $)

    That's the result

    [IMG] [IMG]

Now my 5yo son wants one, too, but with the cable car at Mt Saentis on it like on the left

(and the heart is not for Ed, it's a monogram ;)
