    Dear EDCF'rs and fellow bagaholics,
Below is the original post from before i got one of these.
It looks like this currently, more pics below!

I'm thinking about getting one of those Kadet 9L slings, this all started with @lnytunes posting some really droolworthy pics of it and now i can stop thinking about it.

Would you care to share your experiences it and pics if you have them. How well does it ride?
What do you put in it and is it working for you?
Does it slosh, slide or flop around?

I'd use it for hauling edc and tools/stuff for urban biking and general outings of the short range kind, i've got an awesome large messenger and three backpacks (small, mid, largeish and i'd take those for hauling more stuff) and i've been looking for a sling that lands somewhere in the area of a sabercat but way less tactical.
I tried a snugpak gobag and it flopped around, slid and my experiences with tac-style versipacks are that they're fussy and also flop and slide. Maxped has dissappointed me on 4 out of 6 purchases so never again.
I want something that can hold my edc, a litre of water, pair of gloves and perhaps a case for sunglasses. Looking at the Kadet makes me think it's another possible winner.
Either that or i'll chime in with the folks at Mixed Works and propose a design construction i have in mind for how such a bag would look, they seem to have be missing an intermediate between their small messengers and fanny packs :)

I'm not far from pulling the trigger on a Kadet, should i get one i'd "ruin it" by some functional aesthetic mods like mr lnytunes did his shock cord and if possible i'd switch the chunky buckle to a cobra or take a steel brush and take the shine down (i've got terribly photosensitive eyes), perhaps add something if my friend still has her singer machine rigged up.

Thanks in advance and i won't feel sad if you think i should just stop pestering you and buy it already. You're bagaholics and you're jonesing for some bagporn, admit it and post couple'a pics already ;)

    Hey Ministry,

Sorry I got busy then forgot about the thread. The Chrome Kadet carries flat items well. Like I said, I usually use it for travel so I'll load it up with an iPad Mini, a book, a GridIt organizer (that manages my cables, spare battery, moleskin field notes, my glasses, hand sanitizer, tissues, keys, zipties, etc.), and some sort of snack bar. When carrying water, I usually use a Vapur Element water bottle, I haven't tried it with a standard Nalgene bottle since I don't think it'd fit well inside. Depending on what you load it up with, it can slide down on your back but if you use the removable strap that runs under your arm you shouldn't have that much of an issue (I usually leave that strap off but stash it in the bag in case I need it). If you have to run with it on it can flop side to side, again if you don't have that strap on. I also find when taking it on and off, I tend to have to readjust the strap, so I put a velcro strap on the buckle so the strap doesn't come loose and it seems to have fixed the problem, the velcro strap also has the added benefit of stopping the buckle from banging. Let me know if you need more info.

So i got one of the Kadets and i like it a lot! It's a very good medium size small bag. The buckle is a bit heavy and the bag doesnt have that "tank build" feel but i think it will do just fine for now. I wish there were brick and mortar stores around here that carried REALLY good bags, i'm getting tired of buying stuff to touch it and return most of it.

Two things bug me about it: there is no way that huge buckle is replaceable (i think a cobra would sit great there) and neither does the "female" part of the stabilizer strap buckle. That one could of course be sawn and replaced with one of those "field repair" ones that are removable.

This isn't going back tho, i'd just like to compare it to a sabercat or equivalent.

Upcoming mods: bungy cord fastening, cell-phone holster and probably something more i forget... :)

It beats the snugpak lumbar bag by horselenghts in design and function, thats all i can say for now!

Speaking of brick and mortar and having a hard time looking at kit before buying i went to the local 5.11 dealer and happened upon their "4-banger bag" which is basically the same bag as the Kadet but looked and felt like it could take a different level of beating. Looked pretty darn awesome despite its ridiculus name.
I mean... uh, yeah ok, "4-banger bag". Banger? Is it just supposed to sound funny when said out loud? Foubangabag. Meh.. so, meaning?
Guns? Gangbangers? Bangers like in bangers and mash? What kind of banger? Ridiculus.

Instead of hanging lip over not buying a foubangabag i went to town on the chrome and it's kindof how i want it now.

    Bungee cord jacket-holder
    [IMG]

changed the flimsy schmaracord to real paracord zipper-pulls with some leftover hardware from redoing my R24
    [IMG]

Janus pouch (slick clip keeps it from sliding about) for phone or powerbank or some stuff you might want handy.

Sawed off the hardware female clasp and replaced it with of those that you can take out on the stabilizing strap, this results in a fresh and empty webbing loop that has the possibility of holding a grimloc or something like that.

It's getting as close to what i want it to be, all that's left now is to take the shine out of that buckle.
It wont budge unless i actually cut the metal and then there's still the need to find something that could replace it and actually putting it on there without cutting the webbing and restitching it, way too much work imo.

Until i find a proper bungy cord dealer i'll settle for the cheapo version. This is a decent bag in the upper echelons of decent bags (i compare everything to my TAD litespeed, just so you know what i consider the upper echelons of awesome to be :) ), the foubangabag retails at a little cheaper and you get a lot of easy modding options but doesnt really look this clean or non-tactical aka "kovertz" as the Kadet does even with a pretty big molle-type pouch hanging off the strap...

Edit - Thanks for the compliment! Got so carried away with the idea of seeing what you're gonna do to yours that i forgot my manners.

    Gimme some photos of yours!

I'll take a few nature shots in the next few days and slap them up here :)

I've used the Kadet extensively since i got it and that buckle is driving me crazy. It looks nice and has a nice action and all but man is it heavy. Plus the sliding. Oh my how it slides on shirts, hardshells etc.
I edc a one of a kind charm/talisman a dear friend found for me and the buckle is hellbent on dinging it any chance that it gets. I've considered cutting the metal in a strategic point to make it a "quick attachment" custom but idk if it's worth it.

Replaced the shock cord with some decent size and quality and i think it holds stuff nicely, all in all a good bag. Too bad i cant stop fault finding :p
Maybe i should write to Chrome for a part time "bag-design tester" gig, get some free stuff and improving their designs for EDC version.

I'm thinking i might sell it, i got a couple friends that might enjoy a MoT Chrome Custom. ^_^

Thanks! Based on this (and it now being 30% off at Zappos.com and on Amazon w/ free shipping) bought a Welterweight version which I have high hopes for _not_ overstuffing to the point that I can still fit my lunch (an apple and a granola bar) along w/ all my other stuff --- also hoping that in addition to the stuff I currently have in my (Maxpedition Proteus Versipack) knockoff it will accommodate my Samsung Galaxy Book 12 tablet, and a Gridit organizer in which case I'll be able to retire my vertical leather laptop bag which I've been using since before I was married (it's finally gotten a little small --- or I want to carry too many tools).

Well, I got the bag, and it's fabulous, but it's not fitting all the stuff which I have in my Maxpedition Proteus Versipack clone --- failed to consider that I had carefully arranged everything in it to fit in it --- not sure what I'm going to do now --- maybe work up a set of straps to attach the tablet to the bag? (and God forbid, give up carrying some of this stuff so as to lighten the bag and make room for lunch....)

Unfortunately, my son claimed the Kadet to carry his Nintendo Switch around in --- debating on buying a second....

Okay, reclaimed the Chrome Kadet, and started carrying it daily when I started a new job.

Also picked up a Chrome Industries Large Phone Pouch which fits my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ as if made for it.

Slimmed down to essentials which is currently:

    - phone/badge in afore-mentioned phone pouch
    - Atoma/Circa/Rollabind notebook with a blotter and microfiber screen cleaning cloth
    - 57 POWERS MECHA 357 Multi Mechanical Pencil Metal 3 in 1 with three different sizes/hardnesses of leads
    - a small pouch with extra pencil leads
    - LAMY AL-star black EMR stylus for my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and Book 12
    - Kershaw Select Fire multi-tool/knife
    - Mininch canvas pouch holding various tools as shown at: https://www.edcforums.com/threads/your-perfect-tool-kit.138473/page-2#post-2707956 to which I've added a pair of compact trauma shears
    - small pack of tissues
    - Maratac titanium whistle (need to rig a way to carry that conveniently)
    - titanium chopsticks (when I carry disposable wooden ones the packaging gets ratty and I don't want to ding a nice set)
    - a small pouch with misc. essentials (allergy medicine/aspirin, hand wipes, hand sanitizer, band-aids, money for bus fare, compact toothbrush, a spare bus pass, &c.)
    - spare USB charger and USB A--C cable for phone/tablet
    - lunch (an apple and a granola bar)

and on days when I'm taking the bus or traveling, a Samsung Galaxy Book 12 and keyboard folio

I'd like to rig it for the external paracord strapping as the OP has done (looks useful for securing a zippered shirt I use as a jacket when traveling)
