    1. If I carry two Android smartphones, can I use one of them, to charge the other? This could be useful in case of a drained battery.

    2. Do I need an app or extra hardware accessory for that, other than a connecting electrical cable?

    3. Same questions for a smartphone, connected to a simple non-internet cellphone.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

you would need a double micro usb cable. the idea is good, and but you probably won't have that special cable with you anyway when you need it. so just get a powerbank/charger or a flashlight with powerbank feature.

I can easily carry a short cable. But how do you know that it will work? Do you know a website about that?

I don't know of any phones designed to do that. You'd need a special cord that I've never personally seen. The potential for running both phone batteries too far down to use is pretty high and unless the circuits are designed for it might damage one or both phones. Just get a power pack/battery - cheap, safe, versatile, and pretty compact.

I've seen a special cable on a crowdfunding platform that alleges to do that. What I knew about it was not positive.

If something reliable were to appear on the market, I imagine it would be painfully slow. The new power banks delivering USB-C Power Delivery, etc. voltage can give you a good amount of charge in a tiny amount of time. It's remarkable. You could probably find a relatively small one.

And they are sold practically everywhere nowadays, usually in the checkout lane. One need not have to buy a massive 10K-26K power bank. A few years ago, they were not that common, now you can buy one anywhere.

Pretty sure what you are looking for is "CableCreation Micro USB to Micro USB OTG Cable" if you want a dedicated product.

Google and look for the Amazon page and look at the 3rd picture.

The cable has one end marked "Host" that would be plugged into the phone with power and the other end would go to the phone that you are trying to charge.

I expect it won't charge any faster than if you plugged your phone into the USB port of your laptop.

If you don't want to depend on a dedicated cable I expect you could do the same with an OTG cable and a standard USB-MicroUSB charging cable as done here:

The big caveat is that both phones would have to support the USB-OTG spec.

This is all Google-search knowledge... no personal experience.

No warranties expressed or implied per feline legal counsel.

While I am out and about, my phone gets emergency feedings from:
    1. An Anker 2 port charging brick.
    2. A Logitech car lighter charger.
    3. A micro USB cable in an epi-pen case.
    4. A small battery bank about the size of two fingers with a digital fuel gauge.
    ATB,
    Sam

If someone named chaosmagnet thinks it's a bad idea, just leave it alone...

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is meant to do this, but according to MrMobileReviews at best it’ll just stop the other phone from discharging while you’re using it.

I am also “chaosmagnet” on ETS and a thread came up where we were asked to explain how we picked our names. Weird things keep happening to me.

You can do this with the new Samsung S10+ phones. My wife or I just rest the phones back-to-back and one begins to charge the other. It's pretty sweet.

Yup. The Samsung Galaxy S10 has that feature, which is why I will be upgrading. It should be a good feature that helps in a pinch if one forgets their power bank.

Yeah I'm looking at the galaxy 10. Not because it can charge other phones, but I just like galaxy phones and besides I have about 5 battery banks here and there.
