I completely agree. But then again, isn't that the capitalist, consumerist, American way? If I ever need a bottle opened, I just go to my Micra; a tool with many other uses than just a bottle opener.

Yum I take beer and brewing very seriously but personally feel bottle openers are for tenders opening 1000s of beers a night and cute little college kids...
I guess it just boils down to convenience
If your slow and steady you rarely damage tables or counters...

As stated in this very threadfor pry and box wrench - if it has a bottle opener sure but I doubt I'd even think to use
But I really only want one because I can get a green prybaby

I mean look at these ridiculous things

I like me a good bottle opener, sak ones work great, but when we're working on a car or in a garage I find it amusing to try using something new for popping it open. Favorite lately is the trailer hitch on my truck.

You know it's funny, because the only useful thing I think of on these keychain tools is the bottle opener. The rest is stupid add-ons to a bottle opener not the other way around. Never in my life would I consider using a key chain trinket as a hex bit driver or for box wrenches.

I wield an NME 1911 wrench because of the bottle opener design. I don't own a gun, use the hex as the split ring hole, and have never needed the pry tip. It was a $35 Ti bottle opener. Love it. Here's a pic, because it's so :censored: cool! :D

I also bought a custom SAK from Syph with a bottle opener tip. Yeah it's a flat head/pry bar/wire bender, but I've only ever used it for the bottle opener. Why, because the frog says so and sometimes I like a little splash of orange when opening a beer.

I also wield a Skeletool. It has a functional carabiner/bottle opener. It is operated backwards so don't hand it over to an average Joe since he'll hand it back confused anyway.

Finally, I went out a wasted $15 on a Gerber Dime because of the cool looking fixed bottle opener. While the Dime stinks, the bottle opener is sweet.

Lol If I actually had the "Soda" bottle I would show you. :( Maybe I can find it. It's not expensive but it's :censored: good.

I carry a Style CS, not for the bottle opener but it has come in handy a few times. I rarely drink away from home where there is a perfectly good churchkey magneted to the fridge. So I don't feel the need for a dedicated opener but if you like to have one, it's no skin off my nose.

    Yes, bottle openers, really.

I use a knife for cutting, a lighter for setting stuff on fire, and a bottle opener for opening bottles. Use the right tool for the job.

Yeah, I don't smoke but I carry a Zippo. Not using that for bottles... sorry. OP, you say you carry a lighter to be "prepared"; I like the bottle opener on my Pickpocket for the same reason. I'm not popping bottles every night (more likely a dram of bourbon than cerveza), but if I need one, I have it.

They are very ridiculous, but I don't think anyone actually owns them. Or no one will admit it.

< - Raises hand. I own the hammer. It was a gift from a friend. I use it more for the hammer, but, the bottle opener was used on it.

OK Mark, since you live in NJ and your avatar suggests you are an outdoor man of action, I'll do you this one solid (do you kids still call it a "solid"?). The next time you get bored of hiking to Tripod Rock and head for Stokes, swing off of R206 in Branchville. Stop at Montaque Tool and Supply. Way in the back, near the rest room is an old Coke machine that still sells bottled Cokes for 10 cents.

Spend the dime, you cheap :censored:.

Now ask yourself, "Should I open this tasty treat like a feral animal or the civil and well mannered man my mother raised?"

The choice is yours, my friend.
