Also of all companies, ECCO is marketing some boots that look nice (pricey though)

I have a couple pair of ECCO boots and find them very comfortable.

I absolutely love love love Salomon Quest 4D GTX. Had 3 pairs of them now. Soo comfy, grippy and supportive without excessive weight. I love the look too. But....
Because I'd wear them most every day, the sole compound that was great for giving grip on wet stone and gnarly hillsides would wear down on urban concrete way before the rest of the boot wore out. Never found them 100% waterproof either (are any in their category?). 20% cheaper and I'd rate them 5/5. As is? I give them a solid 4.5.

[IMG] Justin’s. Bought them used for 20 bucks and they won’t die!! I’ve become a western boot lover in recent years.

Substitute wearing them while taking a nice, long, hot, soapy shower - works even better! Old Army field trick - if you have hot water in that “field!”

Good choice. Not only the shoes, but the company. They are all a nice bunch. And yes, I know someone working there, happily. Read about it, if you didn’t already. It’s worth it.

Not to rain on your parade. But laces and zipper is a no go for me.

When I get boots with laces and a zipper, I replace the laces with 1/8" bungee cord. Set the right tension in the laces and never untie them again. They're at the perfect level of tightness for comfort, and zippers are quick.

That I understand. But that’s exactly the point for me. Laces w/o a real function are embellishment which is not my thing.

They do serve a function, just a different one. Instead of being there for putting the boots on and taking them off every day, they're there in order to allow you to set the perfect level of tension, which is an impossibility in laceless zippered boots.

I'm in my second year in a pair of 3-season Canadian army boots. Paid $35 at a surplus store. They are comfortable and have stood up to lots of abuse while out walking the rivers as well as on the concrete.
I was looking at a different, more expensive pair, can't recall if they were US or European, and an older guy behind the counter steered me toward these, said he'd heard good feedback from the Canadian Forces guys he'd spoken to. I'm grateful that he did.
