It would be best to get your feet measured. The Brannock is a device to do this. Hence the term or the phrase "brannock size".

Ah yes! The device they use in shoe shops to get the foot size. If I can get my brannock size, would it be easier to order online then?

    Yes
Yes, then there would be a much better chance of you getting the size that would work for you.

Are there any other good boots brand that you can recommend other than Redwing? Not really familiar with other brands other than the common ones.

For the money Redwing makes a really good boot. However depending on the type of boot and the money your willing to spend there are a good number of great shoemakers and boot models out there.

Red Wing 607s today. Every time I put these on, I wonder why I ever wear other boots.

If you Google Brannock device you'll get to the manufacturer's web page, scroll down to the bottom and they have instructions for properly using the device to measure you feet. Just because the store has the tool doesn't mean the person using it has been trained to use it properly. For some people overall length of the foot alone isn't enough to get the right fit.

If you are going to order online, make sure the vendor as a good return policy (preferably with free return shipping).

Sierra Trading Post has a downloadable measuring device modeled after the Brannock. Search for sizing on their site.

These Redwings are breaking in nicely. I oiled them last night and that really darkened them.

As far as boots go, my rotation/usage is:
    • an old VERY well broken in pair Rockport 'urban hikers'. I don't even recall the actual model.
    • on days when I'm not walking much, my Justin Ropers
    • on days when I'm doing a lot of yard work, my Red Wing #4004
Although not boots, on very much warmer days if I'm doing more walking around I have a well broken in pair of Merrell cross trainers that really give great arch support that I turn to.
    L'chaim!

5.11s that was a gift from a fellow member that was obtained from a swat guy that passed away. Still comfy, although I don't know if he passed away in those boots.
