Hi to everyone. Just joined EDCF, and this is my first post. Without realising, I have been EDCing for 20 years. I started at school and it's the only 'hobby' I've been constant with. I've always had a minimalist approach to EDC, in that I have consciously tried to avoid carrying a bag of any description unless I have no alternative. Not that I have a prejudice against bags, but my personal preference has been 'on the body' carry solutions. However, circumstances can change. Up until 6 months ago I lived in North/Central England in a highly populated, very urban environment. I was within walking distance of public transport and every kind of shop and facility I could think of. I now live in central France 2600 feet (800 metres) above sea level, in a farming hamlet with no shops, facilities or public transport. This is the most sparsely populated area of France, and it snows here a lot. So, I'm going to need to get a bag for my new and extra gear as the weight and quantity of my necessity gear is becoming too much.
