I have been fascinated by out the front (OTF) automatic switchblades since I was a little kid. Now that I'm a grownup I am looking for some advice on which manufacturers produce the best OTF automatic knife. Anyone have any suggestions? Sources? Thanks!

I'm beginning to get that impression from what I am seeing online.

those are really the best ones available other than customs. OTF's are still delicate and easily damaged when compared to other auto's.

benchmade, microtech, piranha and protech. I would lean toward the benchmades or piranha because of good CS and they dont use those crazy screws that microtech uses. protech is my favorite and has one or two OTF knives, they are harder to find though. Other then that custom made is probably your best shot.

I won't hesitate to say that I have considered the custom route as well. I have a friend with a prototyping and fabricating business, so maybe he can help me out.

I have a BM Mini-Infidel, it's a fun little knife that I love playing with. They cost a little less than the Microtechs.

I was initially wary of Benchmade's ability to produce a quality OTF. My fears were allayed when I purchased the Infidel! It turned out to be everything I was looking for in an OTF. Felt good in my hand, Right length, Right look, quiet and Fast opener. Microtech's definitely have the name recognition and are very well made(I have Troodon Combat), but the BM deserves a long look as it is their first try at OTF's and in my opinion Nailed It!

microtech makes good knives no doubt, obviously the only problem being their CS. If buying a MT I suggest buying from a good company like blade hq, if it breaks they with replace/fix it for you.
