So got a parcel yesterday. On the usual sites where we feed our addictions, they sell a 8pc piece camping pot set, they're all over the place. You get two stacking pots and a lid (non stick aluminium with fold in handles), two plastic bowls, a scrubby, a poached egg maker and a plastic spatula in a bag thingy. Price of about $10 including shipping. I thought how bad can it be? Actually really not bad at all. Far better than I'd expected. The pots are a good size and stack well, lid fits well, the handles don't look hugely strong but not weak either. The other stuff is gimmicky really but the spatula and scrubby thing will be quite useful while weighing almost nothing. I haven't used the pots in anger as yet but so far, impressed. Especially for the price! No pics cause if I turn the lights on I'll see how messy the floor is that I still need to clean before the wife and baby come home As I said they're all over the river and bay sites.
Question as I continue to pursue my super minimalist refugee/camping/BoB kit idea. Shovel. Are we buying folding shovels which look like they take up a lot of room? Are we using a 5X3" sheet of flattened metal and improvising to save cost, weight and make it look innocuous rather than tactical? Or something else? Thinking specifically for hollowing out an improvised mini fire pit or keeping waste buried.
Question... As folding shovels Always break, and a sheet of flattened mettle would be unwieldily. How about a very solid garden trowel ? Or even cutting down an actual garden shovel to a usable, or reasonable size ? How large a hole are you expecting to dig with a folding shovel ? Is it for toilet amenities ? Or Fox-hole type holes ? Not gonna check for spelling errors lol. Really tired.
A hole that small, I'd use a sturdy trowel. Less size and weight to pack, and just as easy to dig with. And, it's probably much cheaper than a folding shovel.
I carry one off those folding garden-trowel like thingies, you find them everywhere for little money and they're small and light to carry. Have not used it that much but haven't broken it either so alright for light digging and clearing. May take a picture when I'm home again.
