This is just take one of an idea I had. Never liked the Ti keyring/carabiner thing that is seen in my keychain below. I'm working on a better colour co-ordination of my EDC, specifically black and browns. So I thought, leather. Got some leather thong material on the way but until it comes, this is the experimental phase using an old and broken leather bracelet of my wifes. Advantages, it collapses better in the pocket and when I get the brown thick real leather thongs (rather than this cheap braided junk) as well as cool quick release, it will look even better. I will be using the same leather to make a pocket watch 'chain' so they will go well together. I'm gradually moving everything over to a black/brown theme. The brown being leathers and woods.
Supper! Meguez Sausage, Yemenite Schug, pickles and Challah rolls with the Queen Copperhead. Did I ever mention that I love sausages?
You're on to something with that cord idea for your keychain mate. I'll be a tinkering in the morning
Yeah, but for a while now Jon has been saying if he can't get the store sorted, the forum goes away... I think the income level is so low now that that they are a lot less sepperate than they used to be.
Yes G., you're probably right. And this is the worst scenario i could imagine for the Forum's future. We have to do everybody everything we are able to keep this beautiful micro-world alive. I think this pass trough two vital aspects: Jon's health's regained (that' important beyond EDCF's survive) and an immediate restart of Store's deals. We can't do anything (me at least) for the first thing, but we can do a lot for the second, and I'm here ready to take part. Nick
We probably need to be a little time sensitive to allow Jon to heal, fill and post the current outstanding orders first. It would be difficult for him if we all made store orders to support the forum and he was unable to handle the sheer volume. Maybe xbanker could let us all know when Jon is better and the store is ready to take more orders or if it is better for us to get badges first. Or we could keep an eye on developments here.
Sorry Ben, don't want to hijack your corner of the world here ... so, I'll direct those interested in Jon's status to this post coincidentally made few minutes ago, first paragraph. Give me a bit, and I'll speak to this store-related discussion there. Thanks!
Anyone ever tried the DMT Diafold Magna Guide kit? Been looking at the 4 stone kit at around $65. I like the idea of diamond stones and the guide system looks good. I have the Lansky system but never got it to work, the clamp just didn't work with small knives like my traditionals. I'm wondering whether the DMT is better?
So I had to bike to a friends house to pick up something they had brought over for me from my dad in the States. I switch on the bike (it's electric) and the front lamp isn't working. Dead. Loose connection somewhere. No time to fiddle with it, TN12 to the rescue with one of my bikes most important EDC items, cable ties. One word, Epiphany. That little TN12 was so much better than my bike's own light. I had it on 280 lumens, the beam was perfect, power so much more than I was used to, when I was biking down a steep hill at 60km/h in the pitch dark, it was an absolute pleasure. Methinks my bike will be getting an upgrade soon! The only thing is that the current lamp runs off the electric system, having to remember to recharge multiple sets of batteries is a pain. Needed some more anyway... and ironically what I was going to pick up, finally got my L11C replacement!
Ya, ya, nice MacGyvering, but what I'm curious about is how your bike handles the stairs? Is it easier to go up, or down? Is it all-wheel drive?
So today I worked out why the flashlight was so incredible last night on the bike, it was on 800 lumen not 280 as I thought. That's car headlamp brightness Oooh what wouldn't I give to have that in my bikes life. Hmmmm.
Had to do the same with my bike, but it didn't stay put because of all the vibration (road bike, no suspension anywhere). Ordered a small fixture with velcro that's pretty convenient
I've ordered an auction site $2 flashlight clamp thingy for future use. I re-soldered and wired the bikes lamp yesterday and it's working fine now but for those longer late night rides it will be nice to be able to use the TN-12 as a main light. I know that there are plenty 1500+ lumen bike lights available but a) they are really expensive b) you don't need that much power c) having to tote extra battery packs and recharge is a pain and d) I don't do enough night riding to justify it.
Thanks to jdcovington1122 for enabling me on a new Crown & Buckle strap (albeit a different one to his) for my Nixon watch . The strap it came with is a 'genuine leather' special, i.e two narrow strips of leather with cardboard making up the depth and now looks terrible from a year of wear. Time for something real to take it's place. Their photo, not mine.
I found that the 200 something lumen on the TN12 is the best. You can see pretty well and you won't blind anybody either. 2 to 3 batteries for every long, like night long, ride. Flashlights are not heavy so I usually have a backup (Archer 2A, less power but takes AA)
Yeah the 280 lumen mode is what mine switches on to also by default for the same reason. It should have a 5 hour battery life in that mode so even given manufacturer inflation, I'm feeling safe with just two batteries for the moment. They're 3400's so lots of juice. My bike's battery will have run out long before the flashlight
