Does anyone here have a Benchmade 319 Proper? I am interested in your impressions if you have one or have handled one.

    Thanks

I know someone that has one and he's really impressed with it.

If I could afford one I'd have one right now. I want one Bay-ud!

OK, looks like I am the designated guinea pig on this one. I'll post about it after I get it

I got one and find it to be a great modern traditional folder.

Why did you return it. And was it the red or green one?

They carry them where I work, and I've handled it a few times. My impression is that it would make a great little utility blade. The handle is pretty ergonomic for a traditional knife, and the Micarta gives it a satisfying texture. I did notice that the action on it seemed mushy, but I would expect it to smooth out over time. It didn't have a strong spring, but I cant really speak to all of them as I've only handled one. I would get one, but I'm not super into the blade shape

The Proper is a manual open flipper design. There isn't a spring as far as I know. Not sure what you're implying other than it needs a break in period; which isn't so unusual for manual knives in general.

The Benchmark website calls it a slip joint. If that is correct, it ought to have a backspacing.

It is a slipjoint. Opened via the nail nick. The metal 'backstrap' which rests against the tang and holds the blade in the open position is known as the spring.

As a British citizen with very restrictive carry laws I am very pleased Benchmade are bringing out a slipjoint. I just hope this isn't the only design they'll produce because I don't like this one:nah_disagree:....

@sungame and @Moose. You guys are correct; Proper is a slipjoint. And yes, that means it has a 'backspring'. This knife looks like Benchmade are entering the 'sod buster' genre.

I think I mixed it up with the Axis flipper; at one time I was looking at both of these knives and it must have stuck in my mind. Mea culpa!

Forgive me for venting, but I gotta get this off my chest

The proper is not Benchmades first slipjoint. Yes, it is the first one to bear the Butterfly logo, but they have designed and produced them under their other banners.

Thanks for your patience and forebearance, I move on now.

The Lonewolf crosscurrent was a Benchmade designed and produced slipjoint. Picked this one up on a whim a few years ago because I did not own a decent slipjoint and it was on sale so it was a small add on to much larger order. Decent knife, not great, but it certainly reinforced that I am not a slipjoint man - they simply do nothing fo me in any regard.

But it's still the first Benchmade Slipjoint.:wavespin:

Any additional comments on the 319 Proper? It has sparked my interest.

I played with one in the store. I really wanted to buy one but the walk and talk was terrible so I passed.

I've got two. Green and red. I carry the green micarta version every day. The blade is amazing. Sharp as heck out of the box. I like the S30V. I've carried case knives for years. This replaced my stockman as my pocket folder.

It's a modern take on a slip joint. A very good take at that.

I have gotten into a few knife brands lately but my overall favorite knife is the proper. It's basic functionality wins me over every time.

I don't think you can go wrong.

I have one and love it. I was skeptical when I ordered it but it is in my pocket every day. It took a little getting used to not having a super pointy tip but as long as the tip is kept sharp, it’s good to go.

Any of you guys who have the BM Proper also have say a Case Sod Buster (the larger one) or the Case Back Pocket or anything similar from Boker or GEC? Just wondering what comparisons might be drawn by actual owners/users....
