I had a bit of Paracord on there initially but it was a bit thick. This ugly little piece of string I found in the garage is actually working pretty well lol.

maybe look into some 275 cord instead. your local army navy store might carry some of this stuff in different colors too...

I'll probably ditch it all together. The string just takes some of the bite off of the pinky caused by the jimping, but it's not like I'm using this thing for hours on end.

String is gone. Just for you NSA.

I exchanged the mini CR for the proper after speaking with my wife. It's for my father in law and she figured the CR would be too flashy for him and the proper was more his speed. It's not really my cup of tea but I can appreciate it for what it is. Bugout is for brother in law. [IMG][IMG]

So, topics like this is where I really feel the shortcomings of my english vocabulary, but I'll try :)
I haven't tried the Adamas at all, so there's that, but from an internett jackass point of view it doesn't seem to be the ideal choice for hunting.
Milage does vary, but this knife seems not only oversized and overweight for practical carry on the hunt, but when it comes to field dressing I would (and do) carry something much smaller and controllable. Even if you go quick and dirty you don't want to cut through gut and intestines so control of the cutting surface is key, which to me means smaller is better, and serrations on the spine would only mess things up.
No matter what size of game I've been hunting, I have carried a Fällkniven WM-1 for the last 20 years and I've been very happy with it. You could say that my monogamous relation to the WM-1 gives me a lack of reference, and that's probably true. Still, if it was bad or unsuitable, I would have ditched it a long time ago.
I could add that I usually carry a gut hook, but don't find that to be required at all. And I never cut bones while while field dressing. That kills any knife edge in a breeze.
Processing and cutting up is a different game, which we normally don't do in the field, and as such we have many different knives available for different tasks, e.g. for bone cutting around joints I have a dedicated Mora knife, and for cutting solid bones I use a saw.

Another knife I haven't tried it myself is the EKA Swingblade, but it's very popular as a dedicated field dressing knife around here. Might be a bit boring for us knife nuts, but solely as a right tool for the job, it seems like a good choice.
Normally I'd say, get the knife you like, but faced with the risk of damaging good meat, I think suitability should be part of the selection criteria. Good luck!

You seem to have as good of a grasp on the English vocabulary as I do and it is the only language I know. Thank you for a well though out response, you made some good points to consider.

I expected that my answer would need to get into the specifics of animal biology to make sense, but luckily for readers of this forum (and me) that wasn't necessary

Now, this being a Benchmade thread, I think Benchmade has some very appealing fixed blades in their hunting line. I'm constantly looking for an excuse to get one. It's not top priority at the moment, and I have some trouble deciding on which one, but it will happen. Eventually.
