To each his own. The spearpoint is a strong contender for my least favorite blade shape.
i love my old boker barlow <3
Going to order a Case Barlow or two soon, when money allows.
I just got this "new" barlow, circa 1975. I was 8 years old when this Schrade GDOT was made. It's a great edc knife.
Well, other than the last few years, I carried an old Ulster Barlow since 1976. Was given to me by a good family frend when I joined the Navy - he was a retired Marine COL, and carried it the last few years of his svc.
I "put it up" since everyone there at the time other than me is now deceased...
I don't have any but I want this S&M Barlow soooo bad:
Nice knife. Good price for a S&M knife unless I miss my guess.
Since I started this thread I've bought a Case barlow with peach scales. I like the knife but it's too nice to carry in my pocket! (Ridiculous, right? Maybe when I wear a suit I'll carry it.) I also have an inexpensive Rough Rider barlow that's not bad for the money. My favorite shape is a cheap Pakistani-made barlow. Wish someone would use that shape with better steel and craftsmanship.
I've started looking at the nice quality barlows that KnivesShipFree.com sells.
That's very dangerous for my budget.
Nice??? How about 'super duper freakin gorgeous'?! Now that's more like it! Imma have to give these KSF ones a looky.
I love the look of that Barlow; I may need to hunt one down sometime soon. I have a couple John Primble Barlows and one Boker Tree Brand Barlow, as well.
As a kid, I had an old Barlow that my Dad bought for me at a yard sale. It had nice carbon steel blades and stayed in my pocket until I "upgraded" to a Bushmaster linerlock when I was 14 or so. I still have it, along with a Craftsman one that used to be my Grandpa's. I still carry it from time to time, mostly when I am in nice dress clothes. It's funny, those things seemed to keep an edge longer than anything I have these days, and I know I used them a heck of a lot more when I was younger. Gotta love carbon steel.
new case barlow with walnut bone handles. i love the jimping on this one.
she's a beauty, fersure! will she be a pocket carry or a safe queen?
That is a nice Case! How about a shot of the other side?
oh wow… this post totally slipped by me. sorry bout that! heres the other side! and she is not a safe queen!
i love the propeller shield!
It was worth the wait...very nice Barlow!
I still have the Imperial barlow that my grandfather gave me, I carried it on many a cub scout trip until I got a Kershaw blackout when I aged into Boy Scouts
i've got a really nice Boker tree brand my dad gave me from his childhood and it's still solid and tight with a nice patina on the blades! Love it.
I recently (as in last week) started carrying my old Craftsman Barlow with me instead of my normal locking folder. Call it nostalgia, my Grandfather gave me this knife when I was 10-12 years old and I carried it everyday up until about highschool. It wasn't cool enough anymore. Anywho, I dug it out the other day, spent some time with the steel wool and polished up the nice carbon steel blades, bolsters, brass liners, and pins. It's amazing what it turned into. I forgot how wicked sharp of an edge she will take. I also made a pocket sheath for it yesterday out of some suede leather. I'll post some pics here in a few.
I have been on a slip-joint bidding/buying binge lately and had been looking for a Barlow knife to fit my needs. This knife showed up on eBay recently and, aside from looking like a decent Barlow, it also bore my real-time initials, RC. It was obviously meant to be! Having won the auction; it arrived today so please indulge my current infatuation.
