As I peer into my gear closet I see dozens of bags of all sizes, shapes and types. Since we're all obviously nuts about how to carry our gear,

I'm curious about how many bags you have and

what niche each bag fills for you.

    1. brown leather backpack style, sling. This gets the most use as it's easy to carry and holds a lot of stuff. Nothing tactical about it so it blends into the tourist look a lot better on vacation, plenty of room for kid junk if we go somewhere.
    2. Black leather Kenneth Cole messenger - ok for carrying a tablet and small office work stuff. I don't use it much.
    3. Maxped fatboy - in the car loaded as a GHB
    4. Hazard 4 Kato - used once. I don't like it so it sits in the closet (I should just sell it)
    5. Wenger backpack - for work travel where I have to pack laptop, etc around.
    6. Red Rock Rover sling bag (think Maxped Lunada) - just got this so haven't used it yet. But the size is great, good organization, etc.

    Over a dozen at least.

What purposes do they fill? Satisfying my vanity. Annoying my wife. Filling my closet. Carrying too much stuff.

    A list? OK.

    My EDC collection:
    5.11 Rush 24
    Maxped Larkspur
    Maxped Malaga
    Maxped Rolly Polly Extreme backpack
    Osprey Daylight
    Osprey Ozone Courier
    Osprey Quantum
Osprey XXL messenger (can't remember the model name. its 10 years old and huge, retired)
Timbuk2 Medium Commuter (work computer only)
Timbuk2 Classic XXL (my gym/bike gear bag)
Rickshaw Mini Commuter (my edc/camera bag)
REI Quantum Computer Backpack (my gadget bag)
Tactical Tailor Concealed Carry Sling (for sale, too small for my needs)
Camelbak Agent (not the current agent, a predecessor to the Motherlode in an urban style)
    Jansport classic from 1995.
Outdoor products Power Pack 2.0 (don't really like it, but its in my pile)
Northface Recon (I like it overall, but it doesn't fit my large frame well, for sale more or less)

    Other purpose bags:

A selection of camelbaks for riding, Alpine Explorer, Mule
Kelty Redwing 50l for extended hiking trips and travel
A bevy of camera bags - Lowepro and others.

I also have some older REI and Jansport bags of various types in storage.

    Addict? More or less.

Wow... so many bags... Wasn't even aware bags like these existed before I joined the forums. I'm pretty cheap and never really saw the benefits of expensive bags before now, so most of my bags are cheap or were given as gifts.

So here's what I have right now...

    1. Cheap no-name backpack from Boscov's - used for my school job
    2. Large Rusty bag - used for my summer lifeguard job, going kayaking/paddleboarding etc., going to the gym/pool, and for carrying a change of clothes
    3. Canon camera bag that came with my Rebel T3
    4. Shoulder carry music bag - used for carrying clarinet and/or flute, sheet music, and music gear
    5. Old Greatland backpack from when I was in school - ugly and beat up, but still works - used as a GHB and rides in my trunk

Whew! That's quite a list over the past twenty plus years. This is from memory so I know I'm forgetting a lot that have long since gone to friends, relatives, Goodwill or the dark recesses of my storage. All in all, I keep about four or five in active rotation.

*** = I still have it in use occasionally or for a special purpose
    ***** = Most frequently carried

Black Diamond Bullet (EDC lite) *
Camelbak Mil HAWG (Go Bag) ***
Duluth Pack Deluxe Daypack (EDC) ***
Duluth Trading Dozer Jr. (EDC) *****
    EastPak Chaos Pack
    EastPak Padded Pak'r
    FieldLine Rush 12 Clone
    Jansport Superbreak
    Jansport Rockridge (Travel/Tech) ****
    Kelty Drifter (Hiking lite) ***
    Kelty Roam (Hiking/Camping)
    Kelty Redtail 1800 (Hiking/Camping) *
    Mountain Hardwear Enterprise (Travel/Tech) *
    Mountain Hardwear Rico (Hiking) *****
    Mountain Hardwear Tablet (Tech)
    MountainSmith ClearCreek 20 (EDC) *
MountainSmith Tour with Straps (Hiking) ***
    REI Flash 18 (Hiking)
    SwissGear City Pack (EDC)
Tactical Tailor ROP (Car "Go Bag") ***
Tactical Tailor UOP (Car "Go Bag") ***
    Timbuk2 Q (Travel/Tech) ***

    5. Hazard 4 Kato (black): bought it used on ebay a few weeks ago, didn’t use it yet.

The '53 Field bag is for special, smaller edc related occasions.
The cafe bag is for medium edc or travel
    The Areonaut is for carryon.

    TB Co-Pilot - Gadget bag
TB Imago - EDC when I want a messenger style bag
TB Cadet - Travel and Board meetings (it fits in the center section of the Tri-Star)
    TB Tri-Star - Travel 2-5 days

    Small to big

Maxped Janus - EDC with wallet, phone, flashlight and items o' the day, rides on fatboy or kodiak
Montana Cans (paint brand) "Red bag" - 6x3x1 murse, my first EDC bag, not practical!
Maxped Fatboy w Janus - EDC
Canvas tote bags with novelty prints - food and/or booze carry, party on Wayne, party on Garth.
Eastpack messenger - occasional paint carry for small jobs, mostly a sketch-kit.
Maxped Kodiak w Janus - dedicated martial arts bag for shoes, water, small weapons, gets heavy quick
5.11 Rush 24 - EDC, work, computer lugging, shopping, overnight, compact travel, hiking, spare clothes
Everest unknown make - first for EDC but no good, now for small to large mural paint carry
Scubapro divers duffel (20 y/o) - huge mural paint carry, tools, medium size weapons, now dying of age :(

Various sizes of hard samsonites for vacations and such, always in combo with FB or R24

Researching GGG Stealth Operator (Yeti?) for EDC as a two strap mid size, sans molle for that non-combat look, alternative between fatboy and R24, a guy gotta have options right?

Heh. As it happens, I have a Stealth Operator in Kryptek White in the BST. You can also find some very comprehensive photo layouts online at various sites.
