I though some of you urban warriors would like this. I recently got a Droid and quickly became aware of the augmented reality apps on the Android platform. Today I downloaded a program that promises the google maps of augmented reality. I should point out that my Droid has become the single piece of tech I now carry. It has both a-gps and standalone GPS. A standalone compass in form of a magnetometer. It keeps my music, maps, gmail, gvoice, geocaching stuff all nicely organized. It can use the built in led flash as a flashlight and to send morse code.

Droid ROCKS! Battery life for me requires a charge about every 48 hours. My one complaint is that the battery meter on screen seems to go from registering a decent charge to critically low, quite abruptly -- not much warning. It charges pretty quickly via either a USB connection, or standard electrical outlet.

Battery life seems above average for a smart phone. With normal usages I get through the day and have a good charge left. I think it would probably go 2 days but why risk it? The links are mostly to show the possibilities of AR programs. Droid runs android for it's OS. So if it runs on any android device it probably runs on the droid as well.

Something I just figured out the other day is that google maps now has a topography layer that is pretty accurate. I wonder if some one would develop a topography layer for the program "layars" I think that would be useful!

I downloaded LAYARS to my DROID, I couldn't find anything useful.

Now Robot View has killer potential. It is still very beta and stiching is choppy, but it has real potential to be something cool. I did a quick 360 panorama of my office, and then took it home to show my wife. Basically it uses true north to orient itself. Then, looking through the camera viewer, it imposes the 360 view of my office on the screen. As you turn around, look up, look down, it's like you are there.

This would be great for museums, or other attractions.
