It is a technical process, but there's nothing really mysterious about DLC, it's used in a multitude of industries. I found out about it initially through one of my friends that works for Hendrick Motorsports in the engine shop. It becomes relatively affordable for multiple items, but not cheap by any means.

just a quicky question and not meaning to offend anyone but how come atwood pieces are so expensive? i mean sure compared to custom folders etc their pocket change but still a fair price for such a small item.

Hello Scott ... I once said the exact same thing. Now that I "try" to make tools of my own, I totally understand. Figure the cost of goods on one of these items for high end metal material, to have the cut outs (Hex Bolt) water jetted out, stonewashing/bead blasting, heat treat, you already have $25-$35 invested in the tool before labor. When Peter started, I would say his labor rate was $10-$15 ... the man is well worth $35-$40/hr for his artwork/design at this stage.

Plus, if it was still cheap, all Peter would be doing is cranking out toys and never get any rest. Demand now is way high, so raise the prices to level out the demand levels. His stuff still sells out in 10 minutes, so as you can see, his prices are still on the cheap. ;) Hope I did that justice Peter.

*Back to the scheduled programming. :D

Thanks Ryan, that did shine some light on the subject. After doing a little more research Im quickly realising why they aren't cheap little pieces. Only recently am I begining to understand the world of high end and custom works.

    Thanks again.

If straight blade knives are illegal in my state, do you guys think i would get in trouble for having a atwood tool on my keychain with a sharpened edge?

May I ask which state you live in? I'm guessing that Atwood tools with an edge on your keychain would have a kydex sheath on it so I'm sure it'll be fine. I always take in the matter that my Grandfather is the medical examiner for the counter and knows every cop so I am able to take chances with some illegal carry stuff(nothing like switchblades or anything). I don't suggest you do it until you check your local/state laws on your governments website.

Peter was kind enough to ano this Spy-007 for me. I don't think he'll be doing any more of them, but if he does they will be handled by Dave and sold in the Cool Fall forum on CPF so (*please!*) bug Dave, NOT Peter if you want one.

I was supposed to post these pics awhile back, but I just now found them on my hard drive. These are not mine, but definitely worthy of this thread.
