lately I'm seeing that plastic straws are being fazed out and replaced with paper, for many reasons

and I have been seeing a-lot of non throw away metal and other materials being used for drinking straws

I personally never liked drinking anything thru a straw, but, i never realized how many straws people use in a day,, if i remember correctly the average is 5 straws a day wow

I would like to see how we are feel and think about this drinking straw thing..

never gave it a thought till just recently

Companies are making and selling reusable straws in titanium and what not, so it's obviously an EDC item for some.
I don't really see why we need straws at all, and it's really a shame that a product that we can do so well without has become such an environmental problem, but that's just me.

+1 I've always thought they were a solution in search of a problem with one exception...you really can't enjoy a shake or (preferably) a malt without one.

I've got plastic straws I can bend in a u shape and carry in my waist pack if needed.

Note, when I get a smoothie / malt at Marble Slab, I normally take it home and wash it so I can reuse it at home.

5 straws per day seems rather excessive. Breakfast, lunch and dinner plus two snack drinks? I might need a few per month if I go through a drive through or get fast food for a meal.. Years ago, 7-11 had a fat metal straw for their slurpees. I tried it for a few days and thought it was complete garbage. I don't care for straws in general.

I prefer to drink without a straw, because it's easier to get at the ice. Plus, it saves the environment and keeps them from going up turtles' noses. I don't see the need to carry one, but if you like to, I'd imagine a metal one would be a lot easier to deal with than plastic or paper straws.

No doubt easier to clean. Some dairy based drinks might cling to the inside of a plastic straw...

I have an ongoing campaign to refuse straws at restaurants. Have to remind servers most of us don't use them at home... watch the light go on behind their eyes! :). Unfortunately there are still a significant number of places that tear most of the paper wrapper off the straw, stick it into the drink before bringing it to table. Which means it gets 'used' anyway. :(

    L'chaim!

A quick Google of "camouflage drinking straws" would suggest that we passed that point some time ago.

I picked up a few and keep them in my bag now that a lot restaurants are not using them around me. Disney has stopped giving out straws and with having a 1-year-old it's not fun having him drink out of a cup.

like i said ive never been big in drinking thru a straw

this past week i have tried using a few different straws for plastic to metal

there is a difference ,,,,i order a telescoping metal straw from Mahalo and i think i like that one
best so far. it could even get to to use a straw more

i will give a bamboo straw a try soon too

At home we are using some titanium drinking straws because my son likes to drink his hot chocolate in the morning with a straw. I found the titanium straws on Amazon since you don´t get plastic drinking straws in German stores anymore as I know.

But I don´t have drinking straws in my EDC. Sometimes for longer tours I have a drinking straw together with my Spork in the back pack but I can´t remember using it.

ok,,so i got some really nice bamboo drinking straws last week

i have been comparing my telescoping straw to plastic and paper and now im doing this with
    there bamboo straws

remember i have never been a straw user

i like the bamboo best of them all, and i am learning that using a straw is a good thing
seems i take in less air and more liquid.

time will tell if im going to continue drinking this way

    but bamboo rocks
