Starting to acquire more folders and thinking of using Pelican cases. Anyone store their knives this way? Got any pics of the Pelican case you are using? Any recommendations? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Keep them lying around. Don't care much about folders. Except the vics and opi's. Daily carry are fixed blades. Better spend your money on something else than a case for some sharp things. Maybe more sharp things? Or some flowers and a nice dinner for the wife? Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G973F met Tapatalk
Not really sure why they would need Pelican protection? They are tools and hardly sensitive to the outside world. I do keep watches in them which of course are not all that rugged comparatively too. I kind of like Tackle Box type storage where I can keep them visible when not in use and easily pick them out when I need to but it can also be tough to find drawers there that are large enough too. They sell the knockoff Pelicans at Sams and Harbor Frieght though cheap enough that it wouldnt be too pricey to try one if thats what you want.
Yeah, I see your point. Knives don’t need babying. I carry my guns to the range in them and I like Pelican cases. But might be overkill for knives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Same feeling here about the Guns,no special treatment and I can carry a lot more in bags than hard cases. And lest you think I am anti-pelican nothing could be any further from the truth! I have I think 50 or more of them and assorted posers like SKB and Hardigg-Storm cases as well,I do draw the line at anything from the Fright though, they are just not worth even the $20 to me but the ones from Sams are not that bad. I do AV and Event Work and carry a lot of electronics and support stuff and most in Pelican or Anvil style road cases and am also a Ham operator and have another buttload of portable stations and Go Boxes fitted into them too! I have never seen a Pelican that I didnt like, even the ones that I dont really like!
I have a couple of wooden machinist’s chests (one from Harbor Freight and one from Costco) that I store knives, flashlights and various other bits of gear in. They keep things organized, but accessible. Just an alternative storage option to consider, although not as portable as Pelican cases if that’s important.
I got a knockoff on sale and think it works kind of OK, I agree that they don’t need the protection, but I freed up a couple of drawers. And with the slots I have a bit more control and can easy see approximately how many I’ve spread around in the wild.
Funny I do this too but forgot until you mentioned it? I like the Dewalt TStak case drawers and they are pretty cheap but tough and you can easily attach a box with handles if you want to the top also for portability.
When I started entering the point of having multiple tools, I got two cheap cases from Canadian Tire with pick and choose foam in it. I just enjoy organization. Stuff I am using for the day gets placed in my open top tool cabinet while the others waiting on there turn in rotation get stored in the case. If it makes you happy, do it. Be aware that this foam off gases as it degrades and you'll start to find "foam lint" in the nooks and crannies and leaves a film that's hard to clean.
100% agreed. I spent hours, during the years, to repair these kind of "damages" (the film you said) caused by foam on several of my blades. Carbon steel looks to suffer particularly this, for me. Then i started to store knives in watch boxes with desiccant satchets.
Each set of 2 drawers is about $30 and they latch together too and they sell other drawers and boxes and parts organizers all in the system. There is a nice folding handle on top of each one too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
