That's digital multimeter. I work in electronics, and it might be silly, but I feel a bit naked without a DMM. I spent a lot of time looking for a very small one (small enough to be EDC... and I don't like bulk). I did find one on eBay that was made by Radio Shack that looked to be a good size (it was called a pen DMM) but I passed it off as RS garbage, thinking I could find something better. Now I wish I had it! I do have a few "pocket" DMMs that carry well it a vest or jacket pocket, but I'm looking for something even smaller. I just found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/EXTECH-381676-Pen-DMM-w-Non-Contact-Voltage-Detector_W0QQitemZ7626033140QQihZ017QQcategoryZ58277QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Looks pretty sweet. I'm going to get one and try it out for my job. But for EDC I'm looking for something smaller. As long as it measured AC and DC voltage and resistance, I'd be mighty pleased! Any leads (pun not originally intended)? ;D
How about this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8EYOQ/qid=1149567104/sr=1-8/ref=sr_1_8/102-0070645-5877716?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013
That looks just like the Extech model I linked to on eBay (you may have posted before I edited my message to include it). It looks like a nice item - in fact, it might be perfect for my job. But I'm looking for something smaller for EDC.
Wow! Those pictured in the links above are about the smalllest, most compact that I've ever seen. Having worked in metrology for nearly 30 years, I have seen my share of DMMs; analog and digital. It is diffcult for me to appreciate these small DMMs after calibrating and repairing what I figure to be about 20 thousand of this type of instrument in my career. The smaller units don't seem to be as accurate as the bigger, more sophisticated versions; certainly not as precise. Still, these do have their uses. I'm not trying to rain on your parade. Let us know what you find that suits your needs. Regards.
