    Hi,

I'm looking for a new range bag that can accommodate 2 large pistols, ammo and the assorted necessities. Padded pockets for the firearms a definite plus. There are lots of things out there that fit those particulars, but my additional criterion is that it must be an inexpensive (<$30) bargain (big sale, closeout, blem, etc.). Finding that is where the fun comes in, at least for me.

Home Depot tool bag. They can be extremely cheap, especially if you wait till the Christmas sales.

I'd suggest one with a dual zippered flap rather than a gatemouth. IIRC my last one cost $20 on sale. Fits 2 pistols no prob, ammo, tool kit, targets, magazines, ears, eyes, etc. In fact it was purchased as a diaper bag, and then became he range bag 2 years later ;)

Check out MidwayUSA's Compact Competition range bag. Amazingly purpose built for pistols and comes in at just under $30 :D

Here's the HD bag, $10, I use something like this when I am taking more than just one firearm, or for groups. No padded pocket, but I CCW to the range. or my rifle wouldn't fit anyway. Good strong bag.

Watch for them to go on sale and save $$$. Also, the larger Competition Range Bag will easily accommodate a SBR.

The nice thing about a generic tool bag is that it doesn't scream "I contain guns, please steal me" while in the back seat of your car -- if you have to make a pit stop while headed back and forth to the range.

"I contain tools." is almost as bad.

My rifle range bag is a large messenger bag or regular backpack containing the rifle, ammo, ears and eyes, some 3m spray adhesive for the targets. Doesn't look like much but does the job.

You should NEVER leave a bag of guns on your back seat. Problem solved :)

The LA Police gear bail out bag is a good range bag.
I also have their 3 day pack which I use for Rifle gear.
    Spotting scope, Tripod, mags etc.

Good suggestions all! I'm currently using a gatemouth toolbag and thinking about switching to the GunMate Range Bag (under $30 and free shipping with Amazon Prime) or Cheaper Than Dirt's SWAT Responder Range Bag. I'm annoyed by CTD's big shipping tab so the former has the edge so far.

Except more people know what tool bags look like as opposed to gun bags. You're actually probably better off putting tools in a gun bag if you don't want them stolen out of your car.
