    Moth flies for smallmouth fishing

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I used to when I lived in St. Pete. Wade fishing the flats for redfish and trout. Got a snook once. Water's a lot colder here, but there's supposed to be great trout fishing. Been thinking about taking it up again if I get some free time.

There is something cleansing about time in the woods, and the sound of water has its own calling. To combine the two tends to make us a little more whole as a person, to step away from the nonsense that distracts from life.

Howdy! Been fly fishing now for almost 14 years mostly in freshwater lakes and rivers and when I can on the saltwater flats on the Texas coast. Been able to land about 15 different species on the fly (including a three foot long cow nosed ray that I mistook for a tailing black drum). I love fishing with the fly rod though I also use conventional tackle from time-to-time. I took up fly tying about 13 years ago and primarily tie all the patterns I fish with.

Besides Gurglers and the classic Clouser minnows, I tie mostly patterns that I can use both for fresh and inshore saltwater fishing such as this cross between a Whistler and Seaducer that I caught a big Guadalupe Bass on it once in nearby Lake Travis. I've caught redfish and bass on Gurglers as well as carp and speckled trout on Gotchas.

I don't tie... but I do fly fish. Can't wait to get on the river... Only went once this year... I hate living in the city sometimes.

I love to flyfish! I do tie flies but mostly nymphs and streamers. I like dry fly fly fishing as well but suck at spinning deer hair. I mostly fish trout, dollies, grayling and salmon. I make a trip back to Alaska once a year and my buddies and I do a week long float on a remote river. We get dropped off and picked up by float plane. I fish here in Oregon as well and just went a couple of weeks ago. Fished bulls on thw Metolius and hit up the Deschutes and crooked river is well. You asked for pics so heres a few. Hopefully not too many. I'd love to see other's pics as well! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

My son and I fished the Metolius and Crooked River back in August. A close friend of ours is married to the owner of The Fly Fisher's Place in Sisters.

These are the monsters I usually catch, but notice the tailing technique. I had that fish under control. ;-)

My favorite catch was a brook trout on the Nantahala in 1982.

Great pics! I've spent many hours in that fly shop. Received lots of Sage advice from there. (Pun intended:)

Too few realize how enjoyable Grayling are as a sport fish. Then, too few fish.

Lucky for me this is my buddy, and lucky for him we always pinch the barbs off our hooks because we mostly just catch and release:) And thanks!

Sorry no pictures. I've been fly tying and fishing for many years. My tying isn't very good, but I like to tie some wooly buggers and Elk hair caddis. I've taken a few lessons off of Eric Austin (traditionalflies dot com), he is an incredible tier.
