There's so many different caps, what types have you tried? Have you ever been to a hat store for advice, some designs just work better for specific head shapes.

I have a variety of headwear, from full brim leather to caps, to beanies, flat caps, the list is long. The most versatile ever is a Buff.

Yea I'm pretty much feel the same way. I usually wear a fitted Columbia ball cap most days however when I don't, I always edc my buff just in case. It makes a nice impromptu hat or hood if need be.

What about a whippet or fedora? I wear a fedora everyday and love the utility. I get shade or drainage depending upon the weather. I can put things like a book of matches, micro knife, or money in the head/sweat band. They look good to boot.

You need quite a specific head-shape to pull of a fedora without looking like a utterly failed hipster. Like i said, not all designs are for everyone, the only way to find out is to try if you have decent a sense of taste or else ask an expert.

I know this one hipster that makes the best coffee in the world period. He still fails on everything else in life but not on his coffee making skills so he not one of the 'utterly' failed ones.

+1 for toboggan/beanie. I own quite a few and rotate them in and out based on the situation. In the summertime if I need something on my head to prevent sunburn or act as a sweatband I just wear the bandanna I EDC.

    Quoted for truth.

Not everyone can wear a fedora like Bogart.

...or a .45 auto for that matter.

Look for a good flatcap or newsboy cap. You can get them in a myriad of shapes, sizes and materials, and there is bound to be one for just about every head, style, season and occasion.

A good flatcap is at least as versatile as the dreaded ball cap, as it can be worn with just about anything from tweeds to baggy jeans, and anywhere from the riverbank to the assembly line to the racetrack.

I've worn flatcaps since my teens, and usually own two good ones at any time; one in tweed or other woolen material for the colder months, and one in linen for the summer. The worn and stained ones are rotated into outdoors/chores duty.

Go to the nearest hat store and check out the selection. Or just get a cheap cotton or linen one from a department store. Many of the big chain stores actually carry fairly decent ones, although the sizing can be hit and miss.

Yeah a fedora has its place and if you are a young guy in jeans and ironic T that place ain’t you.
As for hats it depends on you, your style and your area. I rock a logo free black cap and love it but if I’m outside a bit a wide brim is needed, stupid as they look

Fedora, flat cap, or beret? Perhaps a deerstalker, my dear Watson?

Flat cap - keeps rain off my glasses, folds up for transport
Woollen beanie - for when it's cold, rolls up for transport
Tilley "Airflo" - keeps the sun off, flattens for transport

The Tilley replaced a rather battered leather "swagman" that can do duty in the rain too.
