Still plenty of ways to beef up security. Research online.

SD, that's where the security system and motion detecting lights come in handy. Also, put furniture underneath windows so it's hard for an intruder to get to their feet after they make it in the window. Also, do some landscaping. Nothing better than a nice, big bush covered in thorns for preventing access to windows.

There are window films available that will make your windows nigh unbreakable. IIRC they were design for use in hurricane prone areas. It's probably expensive but it's worth investigating.

The Wrist Rocket is approved by Mudinyeri for home defense against rabbits, squirrels, cats and small dogs. Do not attempt to utilize it on opossums or racoons, however, as you will only anger them. :D

I still think it's more effective than a bat as it requires less space to use.

I guess I can see that, but I'm not seeing much in the way of ranged alternatives.

This is one of my first few posts here, I just got into this forum but I'm loving it so far.

After reading through this whole thread, this is my takeaway: the only choice for ACTIVELY defending your family/home is a firearm. If you really can't get past that with your wife, focus your efforts on preventative measures like an alarm system, a dog, motion lights, etc. Don't try to fight off the attacker with anything besides a gun, you're just putting yourself in harm's way.
