thats probably the main reason i wouldnt buy one, they are far too expensive for me to use and scratch, which would annoy me, and buying duplicates just to have a mint one seems pointless.

But tbh iv never really needed the tools on them so im not that bothered.

I think EDC-item users fall into 3 categories:
    1) Those who use their tools normally when needed.
    2) Those who don't like to use them, and avoid if possible.
    3) Those who go out of their way to find reasons to use them.

I don't hesitate to use my Prybaby to pop the top on a cold one, but frankly if I need to pry something major, and I have access to other (less expensive) tools, I'm not going to use it just for the sake of telling people I used it. It's way too beautiful of a tool.

You say that Atwoods aren't designer jeans, but in a way they are like a piece of artwork IMHO.

I've had my prybaby for two years now. I used it daily for the longest time until I lost it a few months ago and found it impossible to replace. :brickwall:
Luckily I found my prybaby, :roof: but because of that incident I use it far less often for fear something would happen to it. It's a wonderful tool but due to availability its become a real collectors item.

I completely identify with Atwood use phobia. I overcome it by telling my self a few things:
    A. It was made to be used
    B. You would kick yourself if you need it and it ws in your sock drawer
    C. Honestly if you don't abuse it wear adds character. I look forward to seeing what my Superbug looks like after ten years or so with rounded edges and wear spots
    D. Your keychain isn't nearly as cool with out it.

That said my DLC MSOPT stands little chance ever seing the light of day!

And on how many to carry the answer is five. Any more than five and you look crazy!

I have been using my Atwood Bermuda Triangle to pop the tops of beers and stubborn coolers since I got it. Just last weekend I was the hero for being able to crack open a cooler that refused to be twisted off. :roof:

Then later that weekend the future brother in law as needing a Phillips screw driver to fix his little girls scooter and all his screw drivers were rounded at the tips (just abuse I guess) and I found some philips bits for his drill that fit into the hex driver and was able to make things right. :woohoo:

Regardless the rest of the weekend I did not get bugged about paying 60.00 for a pocket tool that fits on my keys

Hope some of you are able to find as many uses in a single weekend as me. More importantly show family members its more than just for show. ;D

Hi guys. It was this particular thread that moved me from lurking guest to wanting to register. Yes, I have suffered from this phobia too. Thank God I'm not alone. I thought I was. Like many of you, the only coping mechanism that worked was having a duplicate on hand. In my case, getting a back-up Nibble allowed me to fully enjoy the one on my keychain.

When my first Atwood, a Superbug arrived a couple of weeks ago it spent it's first day in it's baggy being admired. After that it got used to tighten a couple of screws, then a few more, then used to dissasemble a bed, and so on. (I just moved house and it proved ridiculously useful to have a tiny toolkit in my pocket constantly! Superbug and a couple of bits in a bag).

I really think these tools are designed and made to be used, although I admit if I was ever lucky enough to get hold of a Damascus or one-off piece, that would probably go in the safe! (And I'd try to get a 'normal' duplicate for use...)

Fixer arrived today and that is _definitely_ going to be used, what a lovely little blade!

I carry mine and use it occasionally. My A51 keyton lived on my keychain but I have switched to my G3 Prybaby and find that I use it more often.

Re-reading the posts I have to ask something when I saw this. DLC coating mean its "diamond like coating" right? If Peter's DLC is anything like the DLC coating on g-shock watches, I'd assume the DLC MSoPT would be the most used as it would look newer longer and is tougher than all the other atwood stuff out there.
