I love Laphroaig. Don't think I've ever seen let alone tasted the 'Triple Wood' distillation/variation. I'll look for it for sure! L'chaim! Moshe ben David
The triple wood has a less medicinal taste than 10, a bit smoother and mellower smoke and peat with a really looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong oak finish. I swear I still had the taste in my mouth an hour after I took my last sip (in a good way).
Bottle of award-winning Kakushigura Mugi Shochu (Japanese Barley Shochu) and my EDC gear for a night out of fine Japanese dining. [Photo taken last weekend and posted on another EDC thread on this forum.]
Fire Fighter : I dunno... After my experiences with Shoju in Korea, I've never been able to even CONSIDER that beverage and the term 'fine dining' in a single thought! Sake absolutely. Shoju? Still sends shivers down my spine and through my gut... Hope you had a great meal! L'chaim! Moshe ben David
My father brought me back some South Korean Soju after his construction work in the country. Disgusting stuff made from starchy potato instead of fine rice or barley (think ethanol). Amazingly Korean Jinro Soju is the single most popular branded alcoholic drink in the world. Japanese Barley Shochu and Korean Potato Soju are tastes apart. Sake is sake and is a great drink. Korean Hitejinro Chamisul Soju is supposed to be top quality as it is a distilled rice wine filtered through bamboo charcoal (think Jack Daniel's charcoal filters). Never tried the stuff. Personally I like craft beer or single malt Scotch Whisky, the older the better. I still have half a bottle of my Japanese Shochu so I am having a Sunday afternoon drink watching the sun set (see drink photo below). I use granite cubes to chill the Shochu as I like it neat and chilled. It is a very smooth drink, soft on the palate with a hint of cut dry straw. First sip and it tastes weak but then there is a slight nasal rise of flavors similar to drinking single malt Scotch with equal part water - which one should never ever do. The Shochu is 25% percent alcohol.
Fire Fighter : I only have one thing I can possibly add: L'chaim! {eternal Jewish toast, in Hebrew. Means 'To Life'}
Actually, I'm trying to figure out which knife you're showing here! Can't make out what's engraved just next to the keyhole for opening. edit: Never mind. I just saw your posting about this on another thread. If I could have seen the Chinese characters in this pic I would have known it was SanRenMu! Moshe ben David
