it's been over a month since I got a 20 mile run in, so Saturday with unseasonably warm weather for December, I figured I better or get off the pot you need a fair amount of calories on a long run, here's what I took- 1/2 p&j sandwich, fig newtons (these are great), Clif shot blocks (chew one every 1/2 hour), the handheld holds a mixture of Hammer Heed and Perpetuem- not the greatest tasting stuff, but it's good nutrition on the fly, the baggie holds another mixture for the 1/2 way point, the "pills" are electrolytes- take two every hour, the Mojo bar rides along for emergency rations the area I run is remote and the chances of running into someone are almost nil (I never saw a soul the entire trip) so I need to pack accordingly. for extra clothing I carried a fleece vest, windshirt, light beanie, light gloves, a buf and a one ounce rain jacket. for emergencies I carried a two person heat sheet, signal mirror, whistle, small sak, photon light, small headlamp, a small fire kit and small fak additional items- small anti-chaf, compass/map and tp all packed comfortably into my Mountain Hardwear Fluid 6 it truly was a gorgeous day- high 40's when I started, high 50's when I finished- very unusual for this time of year, but no complaints from me about 7 miles of this loop was new to me, which was nice saw quite a bit of wildlife- golden eagle, sharptail grouse, mule deer, antelope- couldn't get the camera out in time on any of it, oh well about 8 miles in, no worse for wear it had been quite awhile (probably my last 20 mile run) since I've been in the pain cave, but can say I was in it pretty good for the last 4-ish miles of this trip I was definitely hammered when I was done- drank a big recovery drink, ate a big supper and went to bed at 8:00! Feel pretty good today, took a nice easy run along the Yellowstone this evening to keep the soreness at bay, probably hit the sack pretty early again tonight though
Wow...I don't think I've run 20 miles total in the last 30 years! Congratulations on being so disciplined. I'm jealous of the scenery! I've always wondered about Mountain Hardwear gear. How's it holding up? Do you own any other MH bags?
thanks- glad you liked it I was in the same boat about a year ago, started trail running and got hooked big time! The bag is holding up very well, very happy with it. I own one of their small waist belt that holds a single bottle, but that's the only other bag of theirs that I own. I do own several items in their clothing line, it's all quality stuff. I'm "from" NW Montana , but am currently living in SE Montana- probably for another year or so and then most likely moving to Helena thanks- your more than welcome
