Very nice Sinkhole. This may be a bit off-topic..Have you had a chance to shoot the M&P Shield as well? From what I read, the trigger is smoother/crisper on the Shield than the other M&P line when the Shield was first released. I seem to recall reading that the rest of the M&P line would have their triggers upgraded to be like that of the Shield, but haven't kept up with this.

And to be on-topic..I carry either a Karh CW9 or Glock 26 at the moment with Federal HST 124 +P. :)

I have shot the Shield, my brother-in-law owns one. It is true the Shield had a better trigger when released. S&W has transitioned away from the old setup which had almost no reset to speak of. The new trigger is much better than the older one. I immediately ordered an APEX kit for my M&P45 but I will wait to see how this trigger is after break in, it's already miles ahead of where my M&P45 was.

I usually load my Sig P250sc with Critical Defense simply because I can't really perceive a difference in felt recoil or gun behavior between that and the 115g fmj I use for practice. Saves a little $$ on the spendy ammo (though of course you should fire plenty of spendy ammo to make sure it feeds reliably). My next foray will be into the gold dot ammo(s) but need to pick up a few boxes and run them through the gun first.

I've got a Shield, it's a decent little gun. Found one basically brand new at a gun show for 295$ out the door so I couldn't pass it up, the dealer it came from was going out of business I think so he was happy to get rid of it. It's an older gun with the original trigger and the safety. Honestly the safey is unneeded, the trigger is so heavy already. I put some big dots on it from XS and those work okay, better than the original sights anyway. It's a nice little gun if you like a little gun, recoils not that bad either.

Gold Dots and Hornady Critical Defense, 115 or 124 grain.

Most important is to make sure it feeds reliably.

I've owned a Springfield xd 9mm and have recently taken a course that will allow me to carry concealed, just waiting on my application to come back. When I can, I just purchased a Springfield xds 3.3 9mm and love it and will be carrying it at that time.

All my defensive pistols are 9mm. I like Corbon Pow'rballs as a carry load, but I agree with whoever said that most modern ammo is GTG. I have become particularly intrigued by Federal Guard Dog 9mm as a home defense, low penetration load.

My current carry guns are (1) FEG PJK-9HP, Ruger SR9 and Tri-Star C100 (in that order, but the the last gun is probably going to get sold).

The OP has an SW9VE, I have an SD9VE so it's pretty similar.

As far as accuracy I've had good luck with plain old Hydra Shock 115 grains.

124 gr. +P Gold Dots. They have a great reputation, but stay away from the new G2 Gold Dots. They seem to have been a big miss (pun intended) from Speer. Winchester Ranger T 124 Gr. has a really good reputation as well.

Im currently carrying a Sig P320c along with my Glock 42 as a backup. The Ammo I carry is Hornady Critical defense 9mm. I also choose the ammo from two different boxes not just one.

Definitely worth your time to inspect all the cartridges you load into your carry magazines before hand as well. Quality factory ammo should almost never have big problems, but its worth the cheap insurance to make sure that the rounds look good before loading them up.

I've had a Sigma SW9 for years and the darn thing will shoot anything. I like Gold Dot and Hornady Critical Defense ammo.
