You'd stick out in a scottish/irish / celt festival in pants, no?

Wow, those same socks only come up mid calf on me. Just over the top of my 9" boots.

The pouch works, I don't imagine a Sporran would look right with this. Though a "tactical" styled dagger would make a fine Sgian-dubh.

No offence to those who have and like them (horses for courses), but to me these are the ugliest things going.

On a related note, having lived in my fair share of celtic fringes, it's very interesting how companies monopolise on people from over the pond's desire to find some long, embellished and noble family line full with shields, crests, mottos, tartans and the like. The vast, vast majority of people we are all related to from said celtic fringes will have tilled the fields for landed gentry and eked out a pretty meagre existence, and won't have had the money to buy intricately woven tartan wool dress kilts.

There ain't nothing like a goods story though, eh?

I have a sportkilt "Comfy Kilt" that I wear as pajamas around the house when it's hotter than hell during the summer. I like the idea of a kilt, but being in the deep south, I have a feeling I'd be strung up if I left the house in it.

A big reason why I haven't indulged myself in a plaid kilt. While I do have some Scott ancestry, I don't really like any of the offered patterns (when they can be found at all) and I don't wish to offend by wearing something I'm not necessarily entitled to.

You should not. You'll burn your legs in a blink of an eye. I wore a djellaba and a kaftan during a four day tour through the desert. Literally everybody else in the group stared at me - except the guides. They smiled. Ever wondered why Bedouin wear layer over layer in the freaking hot desert? I did and thought that they might be a reason for that. Let me put it that way: utilizing thousands of years of experience pays off. ;)

    He said dessert, not desert.

I have worn mine in the Nevada high desert, no burns. But you are correct, look at what the people of the region wear, Bedouin attire is much better for the desert. A kilt is for cooler climate.
