You could go with a vic signature...

Same thing, using a vic signature (or a manager), an iTP and a tiny whistle. Third item adds bulk. And I wouldn't remove the whistle as I classify it as a "security" item and pen as just a "very useful in some cases". So, security wins :D

But why the fuss with the whistle? Well, in 1999 we had a big earthquake here which killed many people. I was one of the volunteers that tried to locate buried people and help rescue teams get them out from demolished buildings. There was only one thing we wished the alive people under the broken concrete carried, a whistle...

That is the best reason for a whistle I ever heard.

I guess my only "always" EDC item is the wedding ring. Hankerchief comes in second with "nearly always", glasses third (err.. "usually"). After that, the keychain, which includes a flashlight and a SAK, so I have most bases covered most of the time.

Although the OP was primarily interested in what we carry IN the home I think contrasting outside versus inside the home may provide some interesting contrasts.

Outside my home: watch, wallet, Benchmade 910, Blackhawk Hawkhook, SAK Classic, challenge coin, cell phone, coins and paper money, pen and paper, Glock 26 and extra magazine, glasses, a handkerchief, and a keychain with keys, Nano flashlight, whistle, lighter, and mini-tool. Oh, and my cane. Dang, if I fell in a lake I would sink like a rock!

Inside my home: OK, time for "true confessions": lots of time I just have on clothes and that's all. Now I should say that I own a lot of tools and weapons, so one is usually within about ten feet.

I also practice a Korean mixed martial art (bear with me, I'm getting to the point) and one night one of the instructors gave a "homework assignment": at some point that night stop and look around and see if we can each find three improvised weapons within three feet. I have actually started to periodically do that just for fun. But, I have also started doing it for EDC. So, I'll ask myself to look around and see where the closest working flashlight is located, or closest knife, and so on.

Try it: stop right now, where ever you are and "inventory" the EDC items within, say, ten feet. How'd you do?

OK... A double barrel shotgun, about thirty knives (I don't count SAKs and MTs), three axes, two fire extinguishers, a thick pipe, about a hundred flashlights and about fifty other items which can be used as improvised weapons. Not bad, not bad... :D But I am sitting on my "throne" right now (my SOHO) so, a "concentration" of "interesting stuff" is natural. But generally, everywhere in my house, there are possible (improvised) weapons in a three meters (ten feet) radius near me.

You're my kind of guy, Aleister! And, I appreciated your earlier mention of the need for a whistle. I already carry a 4Stevens titanium one, but you reinforced the need to continue to carry it.

I've posted this before. I've pretty much settled on the following, and as long as I have pockets, I usually carry the same stuff inside & out, work or play.

All the time, even around the house, must have on me: a flashlight of some kind, a SAK or small MT of some kind. Other things come and go depending on situation.

As long as I've got pockets on me: Citizen Eco Drive watch, Keyring with Fenix E01, either Victorinox Pioneer or Leatherman Style CS, either glasses or contacts. Whenever I leave the house: iPhone 3G, wallet.

And for the (improvised" weapons within three feet right now: A 5" African souvenir knife/letter opener, an empty bottle, a coffee mug, a small brief case, a really heavy book and a plethora of pens and pencils. And, oh, of course, the aforementioned Pioneer, but I would much rather use just about any of the above before I tried to defend myself with that.

A whole ten feet? Heck, I have five knives, two flashlights, a lighter, a watch , paracord bracelet, the rest of my on person EDC, a water bottle, a tomahawk and a SAK in my recliner with me.
But if you must... All of the above plus a bag 'o' paracord, some pretzels, seventeen more knives (not exaggerating in the slightest) matches, another lighter, six more flashlights (one being a 6D Mag), my daily hat, a backup ballcap, my steeltoe boots,a few pouches I haven't figured out what do do with, my watchbox and with it four more watches, a ton of paracord bracelets, a ruler, a plethora of pens, some books, three sharpeners (the stones would make a decent improv weapon) an empty plastic Plano ammo box, a trauma kit, some Sharpies, homemade moccasins, and of course, my sweet dispositioned self :D
On my person at almost all times at home is a knife, flashlight and watch. Of course my glasses or contacts (depending on what I'm wearing that day) come along for the ride, I'm blind as a bat without them.
The flashlight is usually a Streamlight Microstream at the moment, the knife is usually either my Spyderco Salt 1 or Boker Kalashnikov 74 auto, paired with my Case Peanut. The watch varies by day, usually a G-Shock.

Thanks, Thatotherguy. Sounds like some good gear there! Hum, a little surprised though: thought for sure you'd have an old M26 grenade or maybe an M18 Claymore laying around. But, still, that must be a heckofa Man Cave.

Once I get home, I don't worry about what I've got on me since I've got gear scattered all through the house.
My Maxped gets hung on the back of a kitchen chair so my EDC kit is within a few short steps.

As soon as my feet hit the floor glasses, pants, knife, fire starter and a flashlight as far as what is within reach ? the weapon is you brain end everything with in ten foot can be use in defence in some matter be it distraction or to doing harm my office/den is in the basement . with my typing skills it would take ten hours to list everything. Full rolling tool box , multible knives canning jars, 10 ga shotgun, kayak, dozens of hammers flares, axes, etc.
