My .40 is like an extension of my body. My wife hates it.

Kicks too much for her! She likes her Kahr CW9 that she carries.

My mother was "hoplophobic" until my father brought home photos of women and children, taken by US armed forces combat photographers, that were butchered by the VietCong. He apparently showed the photos to her and told her that this was the result of not having anything but a scream and a few kitchen utensils for defense.

According to my late father, her reaction was no less that epiphanic in proportion.

My wife loves guns and loves to go shooting. She loves knives as well. I have a CCW permit and she wants to get one too - will probably sign her up for a class soon. She's been eyeing my Glock 27 - she says she wants it to be her gun when she gets her permit. lol

    She eats dinner, right?

Just using your quote to springboard a thought, Dutchman, so please don't take that personally.

It's irrational to be afraid of a single 3" pocketknife when there are many 12" fixed blades in the kitchen. When they are shopping at any store that has kitchen products, there are knives there. That's scary, but how many of them are unwilling to stop shopping? I didn't think so.

As for guns, the same thing applies. It isn't the tool that is the issue, but, rather, the user's intent that people should focus on. Your swimming pool is far more likely to kill an innocent person than your firearm.

I mean do we fear the car or the reckless/drunk/distracted driver? We've all seen very bad drivers in our travels and I don't hear anybody wanting to ban cars.

With my set up it makes less noise to grab the knife, then the handgun. And my SO is a light sleeper, so i do my best to make little noise. As for what i do with it.... its just with me. If i thought there was an definite threat, the first thing i would do is wake her, and make sure she atleast has her cellphone and possibly a handgun handy.

ugh,my wife has an issue with guns in the house, here in california its near impossible to get ccw permits, owning a handgun is not such a big deal, but the only reason i dont have one is because of her,not worth the fight...i have twin boys and a 7yrold daughter, her fears get in the way...

The wife has her own handgun. She sleeps with her little Smith and Wesson 317 under her side of the bed. She's a good shot with the .22, but I wish I could get her to use a .38 for the house. But she just loves the .22 revolver and she's pretty good with it, so I guess I shouldn't bother her with it. She likes that it has very little recoil. Her other gun is a Marlin lever action model 39td. It's a small take down .22 carbine with a 16 inch barrel. She's a better shot with the rifle, hitting Coke cans at 50 yards. But again, does not like center fire rifles or shotguns. She's strictly a .22 shooter.

Knives are not so much in her scope. She doesn't mind my having them, but sometimes thinks I'm a bit over board on them. The only knives she carried is the little SAK classic on her keyring, and an Opinel number 8 I gave her many years go for a Valentine days gift because it had hearts all over it engraved into the wood.

Totally feel your pain with this. Currently have zero in the vault. Wife grew up around guns and has been shooting off and on over the years, so have our 2 teenagers. Slowly but surely I think that she is coming around, or I am wearing her down on this matter. We have settled for 2 adolescent boxers for home defense! They know it's their house and protect it and the contents as such, so much that if I get up and go into the other room, I am on my own, but if her or our kids go, they beeline right behind them. So much for "Man's best friend"! :)

Ohhh... I thought you meant Wife and home defense! I CCW a Wilson Combat CQB and nightstand a Dan Wesson Pointman. The wife wanted something for home defense since she is not comfortable with my 1911's (I am not sure why).

So I got her a Stoeger Double defense 20 gauge, Tactical double barrel. No pump, no muss, no fuss, point flashlight and pull trigger. It is heavy enough to keep kick down, even if shot from the hip. And most importantly she is comfortable with it.

Tactical double barrel = ridiculous? Maybe. But if it makes mama happy, it is good in KD's book of stuff!

My significant other accepts that I have firearms, and knows that as my profession progresses I will have them. But she likes to pretend that they don't exist in the house. When I have one out for cleaning she gives me this look of, "when is that thing going back in the safe?" and will not come near me until it is secure in the safe.

Amacmansbride has her carry permit. Matter of fact, she shot second in her qualification class. She would have been first if I wasn't in the same class. ;)

As far as SD weapons at home, my wife is ok with the knives (although she dislikes the purchase frequency) has a Cold Steel SRK in the night stand. She's not too worried about intruders but has accepted my insistence that she train with and keep a Ruger GP100 .357 and a Streamlight Twin Task 3C along side it.

I've got a Remington 870 with attached Streamlight PolyTac in reach on my side of the bed (she can't handle the recoil due to an old shoulder surgery). There's also my Glock 27 on the dresser, and an older Ruger P95 with an attached Streamlight TLR-3 in another room; both of which she's become proficient with.

I would love to get a CC permit and purchase one or a few pistols. I grew up shooting rifles and I have shot Glocks, 1911s, and Walthers owned by my buddy at a local range. But, my wife hates my knives and is firmly against guns so it's out of the question at this time.

I brought the question of a handgun up to my wife a few nights back and was (pleasantly) surprised that she thought that's be a good idea for when we move back to the US. Fortunately we're New Hampshire residents. "Live Free or Die" is on every license plate and getting a CCW license is very simple.

After my dad moved to NH from Massachusetts he went to a gun store to ask about what he needed to legally shoot and was told, "ammo."
