Universal Screwdriver, minimalist carry.

I went to Home Depot and bought the Husky 30-piece set just for the adapter. It solves some problems I had before. It's very hard to find precision bits in the 1/4 size. For a long time I had to use some cut-out dollar store precision bits. This adapter lets me use some high-quality precision bits I already have. Precision bits are smaller and thus take up less space than the 1/4 bits. Much thanks to the OP for the idea.

As mentioned earlier, I carry a main driver. The adapter was bought specifically for it.

The adapter allows for the use of 3 precision bits. I also have an extension in the set. Without the extension I can carry 5 more bits.

But without the extension, some work is difficult to do.

With the extension the job is a lot easier.

My little pen screw driver set is now complete with enough bits to work on from door locks to electrical switches to watches, etc. Thanks for the adapter idea.

For anyone who might be interested, the Home Depot Husky 30-Piece Ratcheting Screwdriver Set, is on clearance, at least at my Home Depot, for $3. [on line it still says $4.88 and oddly indicates my location doesn't sell them, at all.)

It seems weird to buy it and then throw out 29 of the pieces, all just to get the precious, relatively hard to find 4mm microbit to 1/4inch bit adapter, but it is the easiest and cheapest way to get it! [I'll keep the rest as spare bits. I was kind of kidding about just throwing them all away, but still...]

I bought three today to cover future needs, since I may never see this deal ever again.

On a side note, I just received a set from iFixit.com of their micro-bit set. It's a bit pricey, but it comes with a 1/4" to 4mm adapter as well...

I'll be reviewing it shortly :)

Please update your post with a link to the review if it's in another thread. I'm curious about the quality of the ifixit tools, e.g. do they last for a single iPhone teardown, or are they really heavy duty stuff along the lines of Wiha and Wera? For example, those companies' tools cost a lot, but they come with lifetime warranties too.

I had forgotten all about this this thread until it came up again. It got me in the mood to do a bit storage setup for my formal/business attire EDC. I just paid $4.88 at a HD nearby.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but thought it would be better than starting a new one.

Can anyone point me to a source for the 1/4 inch to micro bit adapter? Looks like the Husky set has been discontinued.

I think this is germane to the discussion: I like this Klein 6 in 1 stubby...very small and versatile. It comes with 2 double sided bits but you could carry torx, hex, ect. other size bits if you need to.

DX has several versions, all wicked cheap.

I just did search strings using various combinations of the words "micro, bit, microbit, screwdriver, and adapter" and couldn't find any there. Might you have the exact name of one or its SKU # ?

This was the one I was thinking of, but it appears I misspoke. I'm fairly sure I've seen them there before, so I'll see what I can come up with for tomorrow.

I checked DX again and it turns out they don't have a proper adapter like I thought. I like the look of the adapter Mzil found on amazon, but I wonder if the weight wouldn't be the same as using a dedicated microbit driver.

Walked thru my local Home Depot, most of the small tools kits are gone now. Even the Christmas aisle was almost empty.

also one could just add a 1/4" combo wrench for more torque

I have something like that but I got it from Home Depot this past Spring for $.50 on clearance. It came with a Phillips/Flat bit. Bad thing is the ratcheting operation doesn't work. It's a no name product but I carry it in my bag along with my Stanley multi bit screwdriver.
