Hello all ! Just a test in resizing photos using an edited/additional bbcode like [img width=640 height=480] [img width=640 height=431]http://niffko.com/g2data/gallery2/d/144848-1/schrade+bare.jpg[/img]
Well......... I tried to follow the method posted here in #14 http://edcforums.com/threads/how-to-and-where-to-host-pictures.38099/
I see the pic, but my advice would be to get familiar with a free program that will crop your photos. This ^^ photo is not necessarily to big, it just needs all the "white" area cropped off. Google Picasa will let you choose different sizes to post the photo
That will not really change the size of the image file, only the way it's displayed. So if you do that, people with slow bandwidths will still curse your pics. +1 for cropping
Most of my photos are already uploaded to a friends server, who runs his own little photo hosting service.(because I use the photos in several other forums). So cropping them or develop them from the original raw-file again would be my worst case scenario because I had to upload them all again, plus I'll not use any photo host I don't trust. Maybe I should register a second flickr account for this purpose......(already got one for my photography stuff) I still have to upload all of the photographs again, that may be a problem without a pro-account, on the other hand the main benefit of flickr remains you can upload the pic in full res and the scaling engine of flickr is quite good.
I know you don't want to hear this part but... Its really best (if you are using server space - in other words the photo host does not have a built in image editing program-) to do all your cropping & resizing before you Upload pictures. That way you aren't trying to force a picture to show as one size when its another as it would be doing trying it ^^ way Also by forcing a pic to a set of numbers may give you a distorted view of it if you tried to constrain a odd size (already cropped) into a size. Most image editing programs have a checkbox for "constrain proportions" After you crop picture, when you resize as long as that box is checked it will resize automatically when you put either horizontal or vertical measurement in. ebay recommends about 1200 wide. Many forums its best not to go above 800 wide cause of side margins. Nowadays there is a shift to larger monitors & of course those guys feel cramped but unless you are printing the pic or showing in a online gallery there is no need for ultra resolution Just giving some advice I host most of my own stuff to but for forum use its easier to use picasa (from a computer, not mobile that a whole diff thing ) Sent from my Mobile Command Center via Tapatalk II
I use a combination ov my Blackberry and Tumblr for photos. When I e-mail photos to Tumblr, I can specify the resolution. I can also use the preview image from Tumblr for a smaller image. Sent from a remote location using smoke signals.
