Questions about the 511 Taclite Pros.

I'm about to buy the taclite pros from 511. I was wondering, from anyone whose purchased them, how swishy they are. Soundwise. I'd rather not swish around. Also. The strap on the back is for carabiniers, since they're based on mountaineering pants. Any other uses you guys have found?

I got two 5.11 TacLite Pros and they don't "swish" at all, and I got pretty thick legs.

Sometimes I use the strap for lanyards ... other than that no idea :)

Actually, originally, I think the strap was intended to keep radios from flapping around when they were in a back pocket. Otherwise, the only use i found was to get caught on crap.

I think I remember seeing an actual 5.11 video saying it was for securing the barrel of your shouldered rifle in..

I've got 3 Taclite Pro Pants and a short. No they don't 'swish.' The comment i have on these is that i wish 5.11 put some kind of patch or mesh on the inside of the crotch so to eliminate the chaffing feeling i sometimes get. Otherwise i like my Taclites a lot. No idea on the strap either.

    No swish.

The strap goes back to when the pants were first made for climbers by Royal Robbins. The strap was for carabiners, chalk bags and whatever the climber what to hook on. "5.11" is rating for the difficultly of cliff.

The only non-climbing use I've found for the strap is it helps stabilize longer item (like a 4 cell maglight) from falling out of the pocket. While 5.11 has kept the strap on the original pants and the different versions based on it (the Taclite and shorts) the strap is not on any of the newer pant designs.

No swish here. Some of the best pants I have owned. I hang keys, carabiners, pagers, and other misc. items from the strap on a regular basis. Works pretty good for the most part!! Of course you can always just trim it off too, which I have done on previous pairs of 5.11 pants with no ill effect.

PantalonesElegantes, I own several pair of 5.11 Taclite Pros, some LAPG clones, and eight or nine TruSpec BDUs. All are well built. You may be very happy with yours if you buy them. I don't recall any "swish" from the 5.11s. The vast majority of the members here seem to love some kind of cargo pant, but despite having more than a dozen such pants to choose from, I almost always rather wear some type of carpenter pant from Carhartt or Dickies.

    Why?

They still provide side pockets, but they are better at holding things like "real" flashlights and MTs. The thing is, for me anyway, that the more (and by more I mean either in terms of weight, volume, or outright size) you put into a traditional cargo pant pocket, the worse they are in terms of comfort. I find that anything more substantial than a bandana or a Buff (you know Jon sells EDC branded Buffs at the forum store) pushes the realistic performance envelope of a cargo pocket too far. I know some of you are going to yell, "Burn the witch", but, please, PantalonesElegantes, reconsider going to the darkside. Try jogging across an intersection to avoid becoming Frogger with stuff in a cargo pocket and then say I don't have a valid point.

I know I only briefly answered your question, but I hope I provided grist for the mill.

Another big plus for the 5.11 line: The regular pockets are DEEP. (I have large hands and they go in as far as my wrist-watch.) Nothing falling out of these pockets.

Agree with the above post about weight in the cargo pockets but I havent worn any that didnt give me the same problem.

I wear tack light pros 5 days a week for work and have had no 'swish' problem in the 3 years I've had them though I find the unannounced design changes irritating.

To add: No, I have never had swish issues, very quiet. I am a larger person, but have yet to notice any inner thigh wear either (been rotating through 4 pair for 4 years daily, more wear showing on the flap corners than anywhere else.

They have any give to them?

Just gave them a tug. No stretch. I am a LARGE person, and they fit loosely in the legs while comfortably across the backside.

Ive seen the straps in the back used over holsters before which i thought was kinda weird, i own 4 pairs they are great! Worth every penny, only downside is that they get dirty quick. But then again that might not be the pants fault.

Use em for work. Tough and resist stains which I need (badly) :(

Sorry to thread jack OP, but I'm also considering these pair of pants. How are the leg openings? I don't want them to be too baggy or swallow up my shoes.

I'm wearing some Tac-Lites right now. I roll them up and make them long shorts when the weather is a bit warm or I'm being especially active. Super comfortable with that gusseted crotch. The extra room not only helps...your uh "dance floor" stay roomy, but also prevents any kind of rubbing in that general area.

I have 3 5.11 tdu pants and 3 taclite pros and love them. They seem to blend in well enough in the general public in Sydney, except for the multicam tdu.Very comfortable to wear and I have around 27 or 28 inch thighs. There is also paracord holes in the ankles of taclitepros if you want the option of blousing it.I hope this post helps.
