Hello all, I'm new to edc forum so I figured I would contribute to the community with a review of my MR 3dap that I use every day in Afghanistan. First off I'm a assault pack collector/geardo I have had in my time here, Eagle Ind IIIA, Maxpedition Condor II, and a Tad Fast Pack edc, and the issue medium ruck. For quick missions I like to use a Tasmaian Tiger Medic Assault pack. Far as where my 3dap fits into the equation it by far the most comfortable, user friendly, and best designed assault pack I have used today. A little about what I use the pack for, I am a UH60 crew chef/ mechanic. Mostly doing the mechanic side of the mission here so my pack load out is a little more comfort oriented than mission equipment, its turning winter here now so typically I carry a extra Level 5 shell with me as well as gloves. Equipment that never leaves the pack is my petzl tactika, reflective pt belt (those who have served know they go everywhere with you) oakley m-frames, my canon sx40hs camera, dark angel D.A.R.K kit, and a small edc survival kit for that " oh I can't make it back marmal tonight" circumstances. all that takes up roughly 1/3 of the packs total size, many times if I am out on the flight line I can fit my entire toolbar in there as well. Still with 40+ lbs of tools the pack is very comfortable. (as a side note with body armor the pack feels great, I did not get the BVS version but it still sits well against my iotv and dose not ride up or interferer with the shoulders of the vest.) That brings up what I think is the most usefull engineered piece on this pack, the waste strap. I love hiking and outdoor activities back home when I can do them, where a waste belt is really nice to have specially for heavy loads hiking the whites. Here with body armor on its useless and just gets in the way. MR solves this by having the waste belt be able to fold up into a special pocket on the sides of the pack. The 3 zip feature is also great, it allows easy access to the bottom of the pack and for when its time of just empty and inventory. Overall i have to say that this is the best daypack/ 3 day assault pack I have ever owned and used and i cant wait to be using it for hiking the whites or khatadin next summer when i get to go home. Now for the pics. out on the flight line front view strap view with the live wings deployed strap back view with live wings inside the stow pockets on the side inside with the center ziper down i love top loading packs so this fits perfectly how it sits, for ref im 5-7 155lbs and wear a small/reg uniform top pocket which accesses the pocket in the top cover of the pack, keep my pt belt and camera in there if anyone would like more pics just let me know thanks for looking
First: Thank you for your service to our country. Second: Welcome to EDCF! Third: GRATE write-up of some hard use in the Real World. I'm not familiar with that bag, but I can see why you like it so much, seems very practical and well thought-out, no doubt thanks to feedback from folks like you.
Thanks for your service, stay safe, and you have successfully made me want a new pack! Oh yeah,I almost forgot, Welcome to the forum! I hope you get to use that pack on many great hiking adventures when you get back to the States!
Thanks for your service, Dana makes great packs my next pack will be the Mystery Ranch dragonslayer. It the same as yours but doesn't have the radio harness in it. I bought a Dana astralplane in 1996 still does everything I want a pack to do. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.
uh60crewdog. Great write up and I thank you for your service and my freedoms. Makes me lust a little more for a MR.
Great write up, great pack. I thought I was the only person who had one of those Inova lights (and, alas, mine is a nice bright yellow...)
